I MUST BE DREAMING!!!!
I'snt this bloody great?????????????????

woooow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has more than one reason to celebrate on his 60th birthday next year - March 6th 2006 sees the long-awaited release of his new solo album "On An Island".

Released on EMI Records, the album is the first solo release from David since 1984's "About Face". Following the release of "On An Island", David will embark on a European and American tour during the months of March, April and May 2006 - and we should have details of these dates soon.

"On An Island" is produced by David, along with Chris Thomas and Phil Manzanera. Orchestrations are by the renowned composer Zbigniew Preisner and were recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London.

The title track teams Gilmour with David Crosby and Graham Nash - three of the greatest voices in contemporary music. Richard Wright, Robert Wyatt, Jools Holland, and Guy Pratt also feature on the album.

GREAT GREAT GREAT GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AT LAST!!!!
I have been waiting and waiting for this!!

MORE NEWS:

March 6th 2006 is the anticipated release date of David Gilmour's new solo album 'On An Island'

EMI records will release David's first solo album since 'About Face' which came out way back in 1984.

As we reported earlier this year, David will undertake a solo tour to promote the album. And as we also told you, David Crosby and Graham Nash feature on the album as well as Rick Wright.

Others involved include Robert Wyatt, Jools Holland, Guy Pratt and Paul McCartney's keyboardist and musical director Paul 'Wix' Wickens. Orchestrations are by Polish composer Zbigniew Preisner and were recorded at Abbey Road. The album was produced by David, Phil Manzanera and Chris Thomas.

David will undertake a mini tour of Europe and the USA, kicking off in March, and going through to May. It's unknown at this time how many dates he will play.

The three dates we reported a couple of weeks ago seem to have firmed up, but we are still unable to officially confirm them.

The dates known so far are:

11th March - CCH, Hamburg*

15 March 2006 Grand Rex, Paris -

16 March 2006 Olympia, Paris.

* It appears tickets for the Hamburg show went on sale on 28 Nov HERE There is some confusion with the agency selling the tickets. David's name has been removed from the list of upcoming artists, but we understand that you are still able to purchase tickets by phone.

All information about the album & tour are on site, please do not email us!

There's a blurb here that there's a chance to see David here in Brazil next year...fingers crossed, after Roger Waters here in 2002. Pink Floyd never wanted to play in South America, and former members make the party for PF fans who have never seen the band live...

Now the tour list is here;

Europe tour David Gilmour

Us and Canada David Gilmour

David Gilmour (new picture)

:D  GREAT NEWS!

This will be David Gilmour’s first European tour since Pink Floyd’s triumphant Division Bell tour in 1994 and his first public performance following this Summer’s Pink Floyd appearance at Live 8. He commented:

“I’m very much looking forward to this tour and making music with the great musicians in the band. I’ve had a fantastic time making ‘On An Island’ and really want to perform tracks from it, along with my more familiar repertoire. I’m rather hoping that with this tour announcement people will believe me when I say, honestly, this is the only band I plan to tour with!”

Marc Brickman, lighting genius who has worked with Gilmour on many Floyd tours, will design the lighting for the intimate venues chosen for this tour.

hehehehe  :p

Well... he actually DID DO those things!

Pink Floyd tried to make an album called HouseHold Objects, in 1974, where they used all kinds of weird things to make sounds with...
but then they didn't like it and ditched it all

Over to you, Hiawatha  ;)

Friday 27th Jan 2006: Band members confirmed for ‘On An Island’ tour
David Gilmour has assembled a brilliant band of world renowned musicians, who will join him to play the sell-out 25 date ‘On An Island’ tour. The tour, David’s first since the record-breaking 1994 Pink Floyd Division Bell tour, starts in Europe in March, goes to North America in April and returns to the UK at the end of May. ‘On An Island’, the wonderful new album, is released on 6 March 2006.

The musicians in David Gilmour’s band are:

Phil Manzanera - Roxy Music guitarist and co-producer of ‘On An Island’
Richard Wright - Pink Floyd’s keyboard player
Guy Pratt - bass player with Pink Floyd and Roxy Music
Jon Carin - keyboards and longtime player with Pink Floyd
Steve DiStanislao - drums, recently played with Crosby & Nash

The concert set-list is still to be decided but is likely to combine David’s favourite Pink Floyd tracks with tracks from ‘On An Island’.

This seems to be a floyd group (only missing is nick mason on drums)  :)

more good news!
Why cant mike do this with his albums?

Tuesday 7th February, 2006: A special package for all

Some retailers around the world are mentioning a 'Special Edition' of the 'On An Island' album. This is not true, in the sense that there are no other versions. However the 'standard' version is actually very special - it is designed like a book, with stiff card covers and 20 pages of full-colour lyrics, illustrations and photographs. The effect is topped off by an actual cloth spine, with silver foil lettering.

So the 'standard' is actually much more special than many 'specials'. .
