Best albums of Oldfield vs the best of the rest of the world (ROTW) for all the decades he's been recording solo:
1970s: MO - Ommadawn (1975) ROTW: Pink Floyd - The Wall (1979) Fleetwood Mac - Tusk (1979) Stevie Wonder - Journey through the Secret Life of Plants (1979) Genesis - A Trick of the Tail (1975) Jesus Christ Superstar (1970)
1980s - MO - Five Miles Out (1982) ROTW: Tangerine Dream - Legend (complete bootleg soundtrack, the 1hr 20m version, not the official version) (1985) Jon & Vangelis - Private Collection (1983) Simple Minds - New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84) (1982) Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation (1988)
1990s - MO - Tubular Bells II (1992) ROTW: Vangelis - Voices (1995) Jean Michel Jarre - Chronologie (1993) Smashing Pumpkins - Melon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995) Moby - Everything Is Wrong (1995) Future Sound of London - Dead Cities (1995)
2000s - MO - Music of the Spheres (2008) ROTW: Jean Michel Jarre - Metamorphoses* (2000)
2010s - MO - Return to Ommadawn (2017) ROTW: Jean Michel Jarre - Equinox Infinity (2018) David Guetta - Nothing but the Beat (2011)
It seems that MO had the most outstanding album in the world for every decade he was releasing music with the exception of the 1980s, when Tangerine Dream - Legend (the complete bootleg album) was even better than anything he produced.
For the 90s, his greatest decade as far as I 'm concerned, I would say the top four albums in the world by any artist were all by Oldfield - Tubular Bells II & III, The Songs of Distant Earth, and Amarok; followed by Vangelis' Voices.
