this ain't trance...it's far too cheesy for it...maybe some euro-dance? hahah

btw...your kick and bass are overpowered which leads to mudinness...the pad is just not where it should be...
Do you know what EQ and compression is? Ever heard of it!?

OMG and I stopped Ferry's Fire to listen this...

now...go to tranceaddict or somewhere and read up some tutorials!!!

now excuse I have to turn this off...don't wanna blow my subwoofer!

one more thing...is there even a breakdown? or a build up???

it's bad production-wise and even worst composition wise...the buildup just doesn't build...and the breakdown before was so standardish...and btw...use more snare rolls they are so much IN lol...

The riff that keeps moving panning between the left and right speakers is average, but it gets annoying quickly.  The melody doesn't do enough for me to justify writing the piece around it.

Actually, if it wasn't for that riff, I think I'd enjoy this more.  The chords are not the best, but with better sounds I think you could improve this.

I agree with Booster that the build-up / breakdown both seem to be missing.  There's an element of build-up in there, but not much, and the transition between opening, middle, and closing is almost seamless.

So, I think the piece needs some more work.  Out of interest, what are you using to produce music?  I tried looking at the rest of your web site (by removing the filename of the MP3 from your URL) and it just seems to be a couple of photos - perhaps you could include some info on your setup there! :)

I'm wondering why no-one said I'm too harsh yet...

strange...maybe tb.net grew not so soft anymore?

You weren't too harsh, you've probably given a great young musician enough encouragement not to bother with amateurish pursuits like trance music, stick to real music Leafy, it's what you do best.

What's your genre of music? What's Mike's genre?

Your genre of music is that which allows you to express your feelings and moods, whichever they are. Mike could have said "Oh, I should put vocals on it", and we'd never had a Tubular Bells. Beethoven could have said "Oh, it's a symphony, I just cannot put a choir", and we'd never had the Ode to Joy in the 9th Symphony. You know what I mean?

Express yourself with the music. Put the notes, melodies and rythms that really mean something for you. If you put feeling in every note, the genre is the less important thing at all.

And we all know that you can ;)

P.S. BOOsTER, you are too harsh... but we know that is just that you're very temperamental :D

Heard the vocal song!! Great!
I tried to download the moonlight track too, but my computer switches off the internet everytime it starts :/ (first I didn't know mark anderson was the same as leafy, so I thought 'let's see what this new guy does'  :p

By the way, I'm going solo too!! In two weeks I'll be doing the same as Mike: recording all the instruments myself, for my first OWN single, "Machines&Miracles"/"The Kingfisher" ...
I hope my singing will go well, and that you all won't slaughther me when I let hear it ;)

two things...

1. DCDayDreamer, I totally agree with Booster re: trance music - it sounds like you're calling the whole genre "amateurish"... which I wholeheartedly disagree with!!

2. Leafy, why are you posting a link to your track on someone else's thread?

I thought it was Leafy's thread under another name, fraud! :p

I found the technical analyses funny :D

Will listen now :)

[EDIT]

I found it pretty ghastly, the sort of track which I might make with the same equipment ;)

Leafy: I know you can make good music, but leave out trance please next time :) and ... if you don't want someone to smash you a lot worse than me, don't put the DJ tag in front of your name  :/

DCDayDreamer: Just to show you how amateurs sound: http://tmp.djbooster.net/Sterne.mp3 try this and then...call me amateur...

P.S.: Leafy sorry for putting a link to my work here, hope you don't take it as a hijack heheh :)

Mark Anderson's attempt at trance more than signifies that good musicians can't always make the transition from music composition to trance mixes, the sad fact is, the result was amateurish, and the whole trance scene is littered with such music. I find it strange that BOOsTER rips apart the track with harsh comments, I make one comment and everyone's on my back for it.

Mark Anderson is Leafy.

BOOsTER, you should know the trance scene has way too many so called 'trance' tracks, when in reality they're poor attempts at the genre, and it's those attempts that put an amateurish light on the entire genre. I'll download your track (it is your track isn't it?), I did not call you an amateur, so what are you trying to prove by asking me to do so?

Still alive, just a bit surprised at how this thread has degenerated into what it has, I'll get back to you later Tom.

the thing is that many people don't even know what trance is, these so (by you) called amateur tracks are mostly euro-dance or such shit, mislabeled as trance.

I just want to show you that not all trance tracks are amateurish, and it's not my track, it's a remix, but it's fresh from my studio, still hot B-)

Leafy and Mark Anderson is THE SAME PERSON!!!! :P

That's me, but I started doing trance in another project, and called myself "Mark Anderson" :P

BTW: My second Track :P Souls In Motion Feat. Mark Anderson - Moments Of Anxiety

Is that trance now? ;] For me real trance is music of: Blank & Jones, NU-Nrg, Ferry Corsten (or System F or Gouryella) - that are better ezamples and definitions of trance. About my music - everybody know (I guess :P) - I'm making electo-music (something between chillout and ambient..?), and that "trance" project is only fun for me ;] I will try to release my music of Synthetic Substance project - that's my life, not that "trance" :P Second face :P

So guys ;] See you!

ok, my mistake... didn't realise you were the same person.  Although, how am I supposed to know that?  If you don't want people to be confused, don't use two different names...

DC, Booster may have made harsh comments but he didn't make a generalisation about a whole genre of music.  Yes, he criticised the track, but he didn't imply that one amateur track means that every trance track is amateur.

It's true that this thread is way off-topic though... apologies!

well...much better composition-wise...but hey...your bass mixing in trance tunes is pretty off, it's still overpowered...

Also when you do a trance tune you usually want it to be "playable" in a club...so a DJ friendly intro/outro would do justice...

btw what do you use to make your tracks? I would love to collaborate with you on a trance tune :)
