Having completely lost the argument with the rest of the family about buying a puppy, our home will in a few weeks have the addition of a wee Cavalier King Charles spaniel.

Since I was negative initially about getting a dog, I suppose I'd better try and show some enthusiasm and contribute to the choice of name and I wonder if I can sneak in a Mike reference somehow  ;)

Any ideas on choice of dog  (well, bitch actually) name that might have some link with Mike?

"amarok" sounds a bit harsh for a cute wee girl dog
"magellan" or "angelique" might be possibilities

Anyone know the names of any of Mikes own dogs in the past?

How about "Bootleg"? That's the dog's name on the Hergest Ridge cover! Probably not a good name for a female dog - Ommadawn would be a good name :-)

Very pleased to hear this Matt, ~ Cavalier King Charles' Spaniels are dear little dogs, I think you will fall in love with her instantly! There must be something in the air right now because we have recently gained a new four-legged member to the household. Waited a long time, (have had cats for over twenty years) and there was opposition for ages, but it's all OK, & none of us regret the decision. It is different having a dog around but they're so welcoming, always pleased to see you, play and play, make you laugh, make you want to cuddle them and the part I'm most looking forward to is going for lots of lovely walks with them. They add a new dimension to your life. My cats aren't best pleased at the mo, but they're coming round to her, slowly, and I still spoil them when noone's looking!! She's a 9 week old Border Terrier btw, & we called her Ruby. So have no doubts and enjoy it, sure you & your family will too!

Names, there's lots to choose, some very inappropriate for a small, happy dog, Viper :/ Hibernaculum :/ Evacuation :O ooo no!! but there's always 'Sally' or maybe it should be 'Fanny'!!
or 'Misty' or 'Jazz'...hope you have fun choosing.

Think Mike once had a dog ( don't know what breed ) but it was called CD short for Compact Dog, always made me smile that one.

Jings I should have remembered "Sally", that is what the breeder currently calls her! Maybe this is a sign

Thanks for the positive vibes bee, I do like dogs (I just wasn't convinced about getting one quite yet! ) and I am sure I'm going to love this one whatever we call it.

And thanks for the suggestions so far, I like Ruby even though it isn't very "Mike", "Molly" could be good and "Jazz" sounds fun. Don't think I can do "Sheba" as we know an alsation called that. "Fanny" I don't think would be a brilliant idea either where we live (slang for something rude...)

While on the subject of dogs, a quick joke for you in case you haven't heard it before:

I went to the Zoo the other day and you know what, they only had one animal there! A dog.

It was a Shih Tzu

That's the best one, but I also like ImAFoolAndImLaughing's Pawsmouth very much, - I don't know how to do the double quote thing yet, I keep losing bits of text.

And on the fourth year... Charleston?

Whatever it be, like Sean Connery would say, "You're the man now, dog!".

Feel the Earth Woof !

But I think Chewbular bells is my favorite so far (of the puns at least, wondering about Sally for the actual dog).

Hmm? I got a name. How about Fenda, as in Fender Strat? Ok I know it's rubbish.

Sorry Matt I'm on a roll here thinking about a name for your dog. First I thought Fenda. But I just need to ask though...
