Gymnopédie No.1 [sweep mix], from 1888, by nuts French composer Erik Satie, he called it furniture music, but I think he was inventing ambient music, which sounds much cooler.

Sting doing it. He makes me feel good. Why so aggressive? Even with Police.

More about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furniture_music

Wow, he even coined "industrial" music 100 years ago.

Another one done by Sky...

... but no YouTube entry yet to further distract from Olivier's charming rendition :)

(What an horrible cover!)

Gary Numan version (didn't know this person - I'm really bad)

Amazing how you can feel he focuses on the melodic part (right hand) and to me it's the left hand that's the most interesting. He is even completely changing the "intro" that I thought was the best part where there is no melody. I see the track as Satie trying to build some sound, much more than a not so memorable melody.

He sounds like a Theremin, which lead me to this:

I find the theremin way too loud compared to the piano though.

I'm a huge Satie fan. You can hear my version of Gymnopedie No.1 here.

I recorded an album of Satie's works available for free on my website. http://willgell.yolasite.com/albums.php and I have also uploaded all three Gymnopedies and four Gnossiennes to Soundcloud http://soundcloud.com/phonometron/sets

Shameless plugging over....  :p

Shameless plug... but can I just add, as an independent musician*, that Will's (phonometron's) arrangements of Satie's works are marvellous, and his original music (also available for free on his website) is well worth downloading and listening to (and donating on his front page if you think it's worth it).

Cheers,
Terry.
* "Independent Musician" means that I don't know Will personally and do not gain anything from plugging his work, but I do love his music!
