These guys rock, hailing from Western Australia and have been around for about 10 years, their newest album Black Fingernails, Red Wine is No 1 on the ARIA (Australian Record Industry Award) charts. Comprising three members, singer Kavyen 28, guitarist Stu 29 and drummer turned guitarist Joel 29, the band consider this cd "the album of our career". Well, so far anyway.

"We were the coolest 8-year-olds on the block" says Kav who has known Stu since they were 5 and living in Fremantle. They met Joel as teenagers, then formed Eskimo Joe. The name is from an old expression of Joels grandmother, "it's like Joe Bloggs, like, who were you out with last night, Oh, Eskimo Joe".

They are hoping their third album will give them their overseas break, "Whether it's the $2 million deal or the indie-record deal, we don't mind. We're just ready to start working our arses off"

I have their first album Girl released in 2001 which also rocks and will be off to buy the second one very soon as I just love these guys, got the new album for my birthday. Anyone heard of them?

Track one on BFRW caught me immediately as the first few bars are identical to one of Mikes recent tracks (but I can't bloody find which one) and is repeated in the short instrumental Track 10. The influence of Pink Floyd can be heard in the opening bars of Track 8 and the singers voice has a similarity to that of Mike Hutchence from INXS in Tracks 3 and 9.

I hate getting up early. I didn't even realise there were two 6 o'clocks in one day!
