Seriuosly though, I hope you are enjoying your journey into Mike's varied and wonderful back catalogue. So many styles, so much great stuff to discover.

That's pretty incredible, to find so much of Mike's anywhere in the US! You've paid $1.99 per item, and in the mid-80's I spent hundreds of dollars importing a bunch of vinyls. Maybe I should have waited. :O ;)  <Goes into a verrrryyy deep trance>  Back then, seems like the only albums I found in a store were TB, HR, and Ommadawn. I *think* that I had to order absolutely every other album (and singles, for that matter) as an import. Of course, I lived in small towns, so that was part of the challenge. Actually, if a local radio station hadn't played Incantations in its entirety and the local record shop weren't so willing to obtain imports, I don't know if I'd ever have discovered Mike's music. <starts to imagine such a parallel universe but decides it's too scary>

Nope,me too!!!  I've had a bit of a session on e-bay the last few days, bought  45 rpm of Mike Oldfield's Single (Theme From Tubular Bells) and Froggy Went A-Courting,with picture sleevefor £5.50  :D , also won a second pressing LP of Tubular Bells "white/coloured "Two Virgins" label for £0.99 yes that's right £0.99 + £2.50 p&p, an absolute bargain :D .   I'd like to get my hands on the rare first pressing of TB  B&W Two Virgins label ,also the rare beige Two Virgins label also, I'm being a real anorak here.  Did also manage to find CD of Crises,my casette player chewed up my tape quite  a few years back, it's taken nearly 14 years, (not as long as it took me to replace a chewed casette copy I was given  of Sgt Peppers, that took me about 18 years, and Sgt Peppers is one of the biggest selling albums ever it's always in stock).
So  the postman/woman will bring me something nice  :D ,not just boring letters, bills, junk mail .

If that's the case I'm a "dork" :O  too,  as I need a record player too, buying this vinyl with nothing to play them on.   I can't play most of my Rolling Stones or Queen collection too as they're on vinyl.  I think a turntable ,and phono amp are next hi-fi purchases, also new CD player , as mine is 13 years old and in daily use.   I like CDs but sometimes it's nice just to hear music on good old fashioned records, warts and all, as long as the record doesn't have the "snap crackle and pop" of  a bowl of Rice Krispies.

Were you made using the AAD process, or the DDD process?

Does that make me a nostalgic hippy too???  Everything about me is hippy :D.  I came into the world the same year Mike made the Tubular Bells Demos (there's more than one TB demo),the UKNo1  single the week I was born was   that  awful "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep"   song   :O.   Queen  played  their first gig as "Queen" .  There weremany great albums released that year, but if I listed them it would give the game away. What year I'll leave you to workout.  No cheating,no sneaky looks at my profile before posting our answer.

BTW the prize for guessing correctly is one Fender Telecaster of 1967 Vintage, but It'll have to be a hypothetical Tele.

Oh damn & blast! Forgot to say "71". Now I've blown it for the prize haven't I ?  Though with it being the "hypothetical " Fender Tele, not sure if I want to think on what the "booby prize" might be :O

Precisely, 100% hippy and proud of it :D .

One hypothetical 67' Vintage Telecaster on it's way to you  :) , I'm sorry it's hypothetical, but I couldn't afford the real one :O , If I could I, couldn't part with it until I'm close to death, which won't be for at least 50-60 years or so yet.

Just had another little splurge of £16.95 on some Mike rarities

 .

Well I am old enough that I own nearly all of Mike's collection on vinyl (up until CDs were born).  Don't own a turntable any more, but still can't stand to part with them.  They are sitting in a crate out in the garage, most likely warped and unplayable.  But I like the jackets for the artwork.

If I remember correctly Ommadawn opens up and there is a big picture of Mike's face inside, but the picture is either really blurry or hazy.  Up until I got that album, I had never really seen him and wondered what he looked like (and we didn't have the internet back then either).  I remember almost crying when I opened the album and saw his face, because it looked like he was all scarred and blotchy, maybe from a fire, and I thought "no wonder he never shows his face".

My Ommadawn album doesn't open up (one of the few I found locally), but the Incantations jacket does, and contains a larger picture of Mike. That one had to be obtained as an import and is missing the poster that had come with some versions of the album. There are over 15,000 vinyls in the house (mainly classical) and a few thousand, including Mike's, are in a record cabinet. Some of the jackets, including Om and Inc, are not in great shape from the abrasion of pulling them out to listen to over the years. :/

There's an Incantations with a poster?

For most of the Oldfield LP's, I listened to them just a few times on the phonograph. However, early on I made cassette copies of these, and these I wore out.

Mmm...see the notes: in the last paragraph... http://tubular.net/discography/Incantations.shtml

I played Incantations sooooo much, plus I choreographed it, which meant playing and replaying various sections, yikes. It was probably the first item added to the Walkman when I got one, but primarily for running--it never occured to me to dance in the studio with the walkman--only when among horses or out running (a jette here, a twirl there, ha ha) . Wow, it's so much easier these days. I can actually dance with the iPod--so much lighter, doesn't skip, and the cord doesn't seem to get tangled too much.
