Hi,

I've just released a new album called Faerie Tales & Other Stories. You can listen to it in it's entirety using the player on the albums page of my website.

http://purplerhapsody.co.uk/albums.html

Every track except for 2 solo piano ones features a mix of electric guitar, virtual synths, sample libraries, acoustic guitar, piano, and more... very much inspired by Mike Oldfield in how I arranged things, but not so very much inspired for the overall sound.

I'd like to thank everyone that listened to and commented on a few of the early versions of the tracks that I posted in here... I really appreciate feedback in any way, shape, or form.

Anyway, I'm waffling - please let me know what you think. I don't expect reams of feedback because this is not a single track... it's a whole 56 minutes of music! But, thanks in advance for any time you do take to listen and comment

Cheers,
Terry.

Not too keen on the rhythm tracks - sound a bit odd and out-of-sync to me.  Otherwise, superb! :)

Thanks for the 'superb' comment :) However most of the tracks have rhythm... were there any in particular that stood out as being out-of-sync?

From a technical point of view, most of the rhythms were tempo-synced and the synthesisers were quantised.

Thanks for listening.

Cheers,
Terry.

I don't think it's just me - my wife also pointed it out.  Maybe the rhythm tracks are too 'busy', and clog up the sound a little?  It's as if they're 'competing' with the rest of the music, and your brain tries to block them out at times - thus leading to the illusion that something's out-of-sync?  Just a thought.

Hi,

I wasn't implying it was 'just you' :)

It's not an excuse but... I'm not happy with the MP3 conversion of the full quality files so that may have something to do with it but I can accept that there may be issues with the rhythms.

I always used to completely avoid using any percussion in my music and always said that my music creates it's own rhythm - but that was a complete cop-out. It was just because I couldn't get it right and it sounded like a good excuse! :$

So, on my last album (Endless Lives) I experimented with various sample packages (e.g. Heavyocity Evolve) to add rhythms and more interest. On this album I've taken it further so I guess, in your opinion (which I can appreciate), I haven't integrated them well enough.

Thanks for listening, and I really appreciate your comments.

Cheers,
Terry.

Love your work. It's very pure - and you sure are gifted on the piano. Also enjoy the pieces where you combine the cello and strings.

In reference to some busy rhythms in "The Chase" and "Final Battle" - I like these rhythms but they seem to coincide with some distortion in sound quality.

@wiga - thanks for the positive comments. Not sure what you mean by 'pure' but I'll take it to mean something really really really really positive and wondrous :), kind of like the pure light of angels in the darkness of despair. :) :)

The MP3 versions I put on ReverbNation suck - I'll have to recreate them but I think the biggest problem is that they have to be 128kbps otherwise they go over the file size limit they put on there. I think I might upload them to soundcloud instead. Because of the comments on here and other forums I've listened to the CD and the versions that will be available from download stores and they all sound as I intended them to sound so at least people that pay for it won't be disappointed.

My personal favourites out of the whole album are Once Upon A Time, The Chase, Lost Love, Tilting At Windmills, and Final Battle - mainly because I had the most unrestricted fun with them!

Thanks for the taking the time to listen and comment.

Cheers,
Terry.

That's exactly what I mean - the pure light of angles in the darkness of despair -  like heaven must be missing an angel - and you're magnifcent when you're innocent  :)

For those that are interested, the album is now available to buy from CD Baby ( http://bit.ly/a3nGz4 ) - free streaming of the whole album is still available from the original link above.

Cheers,
Terry.
