Hi.I spent a glorious 3 days in the sunshine in North Oxfordshire for Fairport Convention's annual Cropredy festival (now called Fairport's Cropredy Convention)in Cropredy (surprisingly).
Did anyone else go?It was my first year depite all my old friends having gone for years on end.
Basically if you like folk (Buzzcocks aside)this is the festival to go to if you can't make some of the really huge ones like Cambridge or Sidmouth. It's billed as "the friendliest festival in the country" and i have to say it lived up to this.Even my eldest daughter who went with her friend and her family was happily walking around till 10 at night.
Highlight was Yusef Islam doing a short guest spot on saturday night during Fairports usual 3 hour set.20000 people singing Peace Train!Brilliant stuff and i was very nearly moved to tears to see the man in all his humble brilliance.
All in all a brilliant weekend and at £78 for the whole weekend i would recommend it to anyone into this kind of music.Ralph McTell was a bit special too btw

Wooo Ralph McTell..Did he do Streets Of London then?Everytime I hear his name now I always think of that Big Train Sketch. That and him singing along with Tim Healy on that kids programme he did Tickle On The Tum.."bang bang bang with the hammer..saw saw saw with the saw" ... Aye they don`t write them like that anymore.I quite like him though he seems like a good humoured unassuming guy.Once upon a time he was kind of held in the same regard as people like Nick Drake & Bert Jansch. And now he`s kind of down there with the Digance or something.Yeah that`s maybe a bit harsh,I really don`t like Richard Digance.

Fairport Convention & The Buzzcocks on the same bill, sounds like my kind of festival. And now believe it or not I`ve just had a quick glance on the Fairport website to see who else was on the bill and there`s bloody Digance there right at the bottom..   Unbelievable! Some great acts there though Richard Thompson,Steve Winwood I would`ve loved to have seen those guys. And Ade Edmondson doing folky versions of punk classics with the Bad Shepherds, that sounds like it would`ve been right up my street.Anybody else in particular catch your eye then Caveman? What were the highlights from the Fairport show?..Oh yeah and did you take an Airbed,or did you rough it like a real man?...Airbed for me every time btw!    :p

Airbed mate.Bloody thing went down though so really not a good nights kip to be had.Brandy in the coffee helped the next morning!Digance was ok for the saturday early afternoon cos we were all a bit pissed (OK i fell off the wagon and had a 'few' rather nice ales).
Hightlights? As i said 20000 people singing along with old Yusef on Peace Train.Richard Thompson and Ralph McTell (and yep he did Streets Of London and 20000 people sang along to that too but sadly no songs from Tickle On The Tum...all together now "look down there's tickle town and there's the river Tum.Tickle on the what?Tickle On The Tum") and Ade Edmunson singing All Around My Hat.But only a little of it..."....and if anyone should ask me the reason why i'm wearing it,it's my f**king business,it's my f**king hat".
Too many good bits to list though really.

 All Around My Hat sounds fantastic.Did you know Ade`s Bad News thing in the early 80`s pre-dated Spinal Tap by about two weeks or something.Equaly as funny imo, albeit from a slightly different angle.I`m pretty much on the wagon myself at the moment, apart from very rare occasions.Permanent nightshift kinda` does that to a person I think. You don`t really feel like unwinding with a few tins at 9 O` clock in the morning. There`s a punk festival up here next month which I`ve been invited along to,so I dare I`ll probably fall off myself there should I decide to go.Got a lot of bills to pay this month so it may be difficult.

And now I`ve got the theme tune from Tickle On The Tum stuck in my head, cheers for that!     :p

Unfortunatly the only cure for Tickle On The Tum that is known to man is Button Moon.Choc-A-Bloc comes close mind you,but it only manages to supress it for a few minutes or so.

God i hated Button Moon. Here's one for you "Here is a clock. The Trumpton clock.Telling the time, never to slowly, never too quickly.Telling the time for Trumpton".
