Hi I'm a new member and also a recent fan of MO. So forgive me if I am a bit ignorant. Can someone tell me who this Fanny is?

I can't tell which fanny you mean unless you include a picture or link.  It could be any one of us.

I do think you ought to get to know us better before calling us "fannies" though.

Oh sorry, have I misunderstood?   :D

I think it's a slang word in all English-speaking countries. I can't imagine how any parents would name a girl that. Mind you, I hate the name "Eugene" too - it inevitably conjures up Floydian axe-murderers!!

Lol I thought it might have been a funny pseudonym of MO (hence the "fanny"). Guess I was wrong  :)

I think it's a slang word in all English-speaking countries.

It is indeed, but it doesn't mean the same thing everywhere.  In America, fanny means ass.  In Britain, it refers to a more personal part of the female anatomy.

I can't imagine how any parents would name a girl that.

Most girls that were names Fanny were so named before the word took on those connotations.  I wonder if the infamous steamy novel Fanny By Gaslight was the cause, or if it was already in use as a slang term before that.....
