This is an older idea (from about March of 2003) that I've finally gotten around to reworking/expanding. I ended up using every guitar I own, among other things, and I think this may be the first example of a recording with both a Roland VG-8EX and a Vox AC1 mini amp!

("Farewell March" should be the most recent entry, and choosing "hi-fi play" will get you around having to sell your Soul and sign up, etc)

I hope you enjoy it.

Sounds a lot nicer than the the previous excellent version I have somewhere on my hard drive here. I agree with Booster, the bass is delicious! And I like all the other additions you have here. The piano fits in nicely! Excellent as always!

Sorry, I don't like this. :) Jameson above here is right, it could be much better if a solo melody on the guitar was developed all the way through and not only at the end... even if I have to admit, very frankly, that I also don't like the solo at the end. IMHO it goes nowhere.
Anyway the overall sound is good. About a quarter of an hour ago I finished watching the "Ladyhawke" DVD, and that flute reminded me a little bit of that. :)

It's great. I love the counterpoint between the recorder and the acoustic guitar, which also SOUNDS really good. Glad to hear your voice in there too,  always a bonus. Perhaps a little too long, but that is strictly a subjective, personal taste type of thing.
Great bass line, well placed too. I would have been tempted to add some reverb to the lead electric, but clean is refreshing to hear.
I feel that this is good, solid piece of composing and playing. As you are aware,  we here at ecco sound labortories (j.k) )play all of the instruments and don't loop, and can tell that you spent alot of time and energy on this. btw, if you need hosting, drop us a line.
Regards

Thanks a lot for listening, and for your comments. Here are some notes that address some of the things brought up in this thread:

Woodwinds: The winds in this track are my $3.50 (circa 1987) 3rd grade school plastic recorder (also playing its own harmony), with my Armstrong concert flute (worth a bit more than $3.50) making a very small appearance. Sure, flutes and woodwinds aren't perhaps the most "masculine" of instruments, but they can sound pretty amazing if used well and in the right places. Try to tell me that the flute intro to Incantations I isn't breathtaking!

Musical Development, etc: This is sort of an experiment in minimalism. Instead of going for a whole lot of melodic development and harmonic changes that would support that, I tried to develop textures and layering. The whole thing is about a messy sort of atmospheric tension that builds and builds and is only "resolved" by the recorder solo towards the end, as the layers get stripped off gradually. I suppose it "works" for some people more than others! The counterpoint is simple: just a handful of lines of contrary and similar/parallel motion, and the entire piece is based around two chords; minimalism indeed.

As for the guitar solo... I hope that "Delirium" and "Surrounded by Spirits" show that I'm capable of much more complex guitar playing than what this track shows. The thought had crossed my mind of trying something a bit more, but in the end, I just don't think it'd fit with what I'm trying to get across.

Daddybird: if you're still having trouble with the link, I'll see if I can upload an .ogg file somewhere. You should be ok though, if you're using a modern web browser with your MIME types set up properly.

rgds,

Khoa
