Concerto of a Raining Day by ELO - part of Out of the Blue album (it used to be the complete first side of the second LP).

I sure hope that Mike realises what joy he brings to us !

A couple:

"Supper's Ready", Genesis (the finale kills me every time)
"Echoes", Pink Floyd (my very first side-long song ever! )
"The Gates Of Delirium", Yes

A few others that deserve mentioning:

"Hemispheres", Rush
"Autobahn", Kraftwerk
"Mogwai Fear Satan", Mogwai
"Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása", Sigur Rós
"Halleluhwah", Can
"Thick As A Brick", Jethro Tull
"The Faust Tapes", Faust
"Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands", Bob Dylan

Eh, there are probably more.

I remember being really impressed by 'Journey to the Centre of the Earth' by Rick Wakeman when I was 13 but I haven't heard it since then and while I am here I might as well mention 'War of the Worlds'. But some of that stuff on Mustys list which I have never heard I would love to get hold of.

Do pieces intended as one, but composed by several parts, count? If yes, my favs other than M.O. are JMJ's "Oxygène" and Pink Floyd's "Shine on", parts 1 to 5 (or Part 1). :)

Someone mentioned Concerto for a Rainy Day by ELO, and I have to agree on that! I also love Rime of the Ancient Mariner by David Bedford and also The Fall of the House of Usher by The Alan Parsons Project and (I guess only Dutch people will know this one:) Song of the Marching Children and Atlantis, both by Earth & Fire (Dutch progressive group). Echoes by the Floyd is great as well... :D
Greetings, Runaway Son from Holland

both by Earth & Fire (Dutch progressive group).

I always wondered what ever happened to the old funk/soul band "Earth, Wind and Fire". Probably Wind stayed home.

Hahaha, luckily Earth and Fire has nothing to do with that 70's disco band Earth Wind and Fire :D
It's more like the Dutch Pink Floyd I think, but then not as famous! Although its singer is now one of the jury members of Idols  :) .

Long piece? Hmmmm...

The whole 'The War of the Worlds' album by Jeff Wayne.  It's really a masterpiece. And a great example of the 'my first record was a masterpiece so I decided not to release anything less' syndrome.

I sometimes guess what could have Jeff Wayne done if he'd signed with Virgin... ;-)
