Quote (First_Excursion @ Aug. 25 2013, 19:15) | Save for the Earth Moving album, I love everything up to Amarok, and hate just about everything he's done since. |
I'm glad that someone else has noticed that something happened right after Amarok. Did he have a stroke? A second life-change self-help seminar?
I can't pinpoint exactly what it is, but TBII and onwards has a whole different attitude to them compared to the earlier albums (Heaven's Open is kind of transitional).
Short summary of my MO-preferences:
Godlike: Ommadawn, Incantations
Semi-godlike: Hergest Ridge, Five Miles Out
Amazing stuff: Tubular Bells, Platinum, QE2, Crises, Killing Fields
Flawed masterpieces: Discovery, Amarok, Islands
Has some nice stuff on it: Earth Moving, Heaven's Open, TBIII, Light & Shade, Tres Lunas, That classical album, Voyager
Stuff I wish the guy hadn't put out, still waiting for an excuse: Songs of Distant Earth, The Millenium Bell, TBII
