(I sent this info last week to the news@tubular.net to be published as Mike's Media Coverage, but maybe it got lost)

The figure skating championships were held in Helsinki last week, and on Friday Francesca Rio from Italy used an edit of Harbinger from "Music of the Spheres" as music for her short program. She finished 17th of 40 skaters. There is already a YouTube video of her performance:

She interpreted the music very nicely - a shame she fell - might have gotten a higher ranking.

Yes, to be there might have been nearly as good as discovering Ommadawn in an airport.

Her name is Rio and she dances on the ice.
She digs Mike Oldfield,and in chiffon she looks nice.  :p

Yeah I agree with Wiga here,without that little fall she would`ve finished a lot higher I think.Nice recovery though,and it did`nt seem to affect the rest of her performance at all...Women`s Figure Skating is just great though is`nt it?..There should be an entire channel devoted to it imo.

Agreed on a channel dedicated to ladies' figure skating - ladies' tennis deserves another one :cool:

I had been surprised to not having heard anyone else using Mike's music with figure skating. The rules say that the music must be instrumental and/or vocals without lyrics, and there are hours and hours of that in Mike's back catalogue... Francesca Rio showed some taste!
