Hello. It´s good the fingerpicking of Mike Oldfield or it´s better to play the guitar with pick or of other form (his style of the right hand, with pick and nail)? I am rolled. I play with the fingers 1 and 2 and I don´t know if his fingerpicking is better. Why Mike learnt this fingerpicking?

Do whatever works best for you. Sometimes you might find there are things easier to play with a pick, some with the fingers. The traditional classical fingerstyle uses the thumb (p) and the first three fingers (i, m and a). Classical techniques can often be good ones to follow, as they're tried and tested and they've been developed for coping with pieces that can be quite demanding of the player. That doesn't mean they're right for everything, though.
I believe that Mike adopted his fingerpicking style after seeing folk and classical players use it. He occasionally picks using the 4th finger (pinky) as well.

Other players have other ways of doing things, of course - some would pick using just two fingers and the thumb (like Mark Knopfler, for example) while others might use a pick and fingers at the same time.

An advantage of Mike's technique is that he can keep his right hand fingers down on the strings most of the time, and mute the ones that he isn't playing. That can help to stop unwanted noises when playing with heavy overdrive or distortion.

Mostly with fingers, in a way similar to the classical technique. I also find that it's possible to pick with one fingernail in a way very similar to using a pick, though the sound is slightly different.
It's worth trying out lots of things, to see what kind of things are possible...

i tried mike's fingernail-style and i found it a lot easier for getting between strings fast. i usually use my ring finger more then the rest but i do use the rest. im still trying to make myself use my thumb. its awkward to me but im gonna try and see if it helps me any.

for things that are played really fast between a lot of strings (ie the bell bass tune used on far above the clouds also) i use a pick and of course i strum with a pick.

I would agree that it is best to go with whatever your most comfortable with,i use my fingers because when i started playing about 7 years ago,i watched the way Mark Knopfler plays, and basically copied him,i did'nt even know of Mike back then(Shock!!!)but then when i heard and watched Mike play aswell,it just enhanced my fingerstlye playing, and i am very comfortable with it,i personaly think it gives a player more options, maybe that's just me.I think it's a great way to play lead, although it's not that great for rythum,it can be done though,Knopfler does it using triad chords for example, but Mikes stlye is great because he hides the plectrum with his thumb, and can bring it out whenever needed. But both players are genius examples of fingerstlye playing in a varied stlye
