Hey everyone!

Are the UK fans here doing OK over there with the flooding? I am a bit worried when I just saw the news...

How about Mike etc? Isn't he living in Gloucester? I do understand most of the flooding is over there. Hope the Manor is doing OK too, since Oxford is another target.

Where I am there's been tons of rain (or should I say gallons :p ) over the last seven weeks or so, but I think most of the flooding was in Sheffield and maybe other parts of Yorkshire...maybe it was in other places too, I'm not sure...

(I've been caught in some heavy rain a few times to and from work on my bike :O :p )

I work outdoors and must say this has got to be the wettest summer I've known. I live in the north east of England and compared to other parts of the country we're doing ok. To all the area's that are suffering you have got my sympathy, it must be really bad to get caught up in this misery, I feel so sad for those who are unfortunate enough to be at the mercy of the weather right now throughout the UK.

I've seen also on the telly here, that the 2 most important rivers in the UK(Thames and Severn) are suffering with the flood. In Mike's case...afaik,river Severn is on the area where he lives now,but I do think he lives in an area which doesn't have flooding troubles  ;)

Hope that the UK friends are fine there,it's too bad when the flood is in front of you!

Well that's so nice of people across the world to wonder how we're getting on in the UK re flooding etc. I too have been thinking of Mike ~ hope he is quite dry & flood free.

The weather here this summer has been p a n t s, there's no other word for it. I too work outside and it normally doesn't bother me in the slightest, wind, rain, hail, snow, burning sun, but this year I am in danger of contracting trench foot. It would be so nice to have a warm dry week, and I live in East Anglia which has been fine in comparison to the dreadful conditions in Yorkshire and Herefordshire/Gloucestershire. So I do count myself lucky.

But thankyou for your concern!

Like Bee, I've seen nothing of the flooding - no problems up here in the northwest. But the weather has been 'difficult'. I've been waiting for a fine day to walk a piece of Hadrian's Wall, and I keep waiting and waiting for a clear, dry day where I won't be wading through mud .... But the devastation around the Thames and Severn valleys is terrible, to judge from the pictures I've seen.

On the plus side, we are getting some incredibly beautiful skies just now in the breaks between rain - Constable would have been in his element.

Bit damp round the edges and some routes to work have seen some flooding. Quite lucky really, some local towns have been quite bad. Best wishes to all those who have been flooded out, and thanks to those who have been worried about us.  :/

Here in july is not typical to have much rain, but nowadays it's been raining a lot really...and some people think that this excess of rain should have been one of the main causes of that horrible airplane accident in Brazil last week(and it was in my city, where I live).

I saw on the telly here that Oxford is suffering a lot with the flood,'cause the level of river Thames is too high!

Haven't been affected too badly here, but I know Yorkshire was badly hit last month, and Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, and parts of Warwickshire were amongst the worst hit areas. The River Thames flooded parts of Oxfordshire, and Berkshire, I think Reading was likely to be hit in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

I don't think Warwickshire has seen flooding on this scale, the River Avon , burst it's banks at Stratford. I know my boyfriend had spent the past two nights on patrol in a 4x4, rescuing workers from flooded sites.

At an other forum a youngster living south of Gloucester writes this...
"Yep, he does, probably in the Forest Of Dean and I don't think that's too bad..."
Darn, I hope his instruments haven't been all soaked up over there. :O
But I would guess that he's got a pretty good incurance and places to run.
The more badly I feel if there're ppl loosing everything they have.  :/

Well, good to hear that most of us is doing fine, despite the weather. And also of Mike.

Alan --> I've been at Hadrian's Wall in 2000 I think. It was back then one of the warmest summers. Still have the video tapes. Was  on of the best holidays I've had! Hope you can visit them these days. Here in the Netherlands it has been mostly rain too.

Yes, it's a wonderful wild, sweeping landscape and I'm not surprised you enjoyed yourself. I've visited the wall several times (it's about a 2 hour drive from home), but have never actually walked a good long stretch of it, and that's what I have the urge to do.

But the elements are still against me: the rain is lashing against the window as I write this! I hope this doesn't mean yet more flooding for those already in difficulties.

I live 3 miles from the Severn at Bewdley where the Council were taking the "Flood Barriers Down !!" yesterday due to the risk of them being pinched for there high scrap value apparently   lol.. need a big truck for that !!  River still full though powering its way into Worcester spilling on to the Cricket and horse race venues  .. Raining again today so plenty more of hassle to come i guess for the Week ahead..TV were down in Bewdley last night as the whole Bank with the Steam Railway on it is cracking up threatening to Collapse and push a few mobile homes into the River..Wondered why it was Taped off yesterday..Nice little Cafe in "Upton on Severn" by the River.. guess its 6 foot under now judging by the TV pics..Seems in vogue to own Homes by Water fronts these days .. Perhaps this will halt the trend !!

Last year in late summer, I was sitting outside a pub in Upton, by the river, drinking a pint of beer on a mild evening at the end of a warm day. Impossible to contemplate what it must be like at the moment.

Yep much as I love the element of water, I think if I move I'll be looking for a home that's on a hill :)   .
