In a new interview (http://news.scotsman.com/index.cfm?id=542702003) Mike says he will "more likely go backwards to wards the old celtic music" on future albums.

What do you think about that?

If he manages to achieve that genuine pastoral feel, and if he composes some fine progressions as he knew to do that on such albums, I am looking forward to it  :)

Quite honestly, I won't believe it until I hear it. Might be that he will do music that is in some way or other 'celtic', but I don't believe that it could be like 'the old music'. Not that it has to.

As long as it sounds nothing like Voyager and is genuinely a celtic album it could be great. NO SYNTHS MIKE

Be a bit more optimistic people, maybe this is what we hoped would happen, after Mike has made the new Tubular Bells album he has got a renewed interest in making music with real instruments again, here's hoping anyway.

Yes! Mike has made a contract for two CHILL OUT albums and TB 2003. Now it seems that the next album will not be a Tres Lunas II (minimalistic Cafe del Mare style with many drum loops and nothing much happening at all). That was my biggest fear because in the past Mike has never done a album in the same style than the album before and that`s what makes me love him so much.
Old celtic style... I think that could be interesting. Maybe he will work with orchestra again like on Mont St. Michel. I like this piece. But I would love to hear a longer composition with progression which uses celtic elements along with other styles.

Yeah, but we know Mike always changes of opinions... ;)

But seriously, Voyager wasn't so bad (although, saying this I realize I haven't listened the album for half a year or so).

Only time will tell.

OK, I don't want to come across too pessimistic here. It would be great if he did what he said. It's just that what he says and what he does doesn't always seem to match. Example (among many others): Guitars.

In his recent interviews Mike has said that he is thinking of doing an album with a mix of celtic (with original instruments) and synth/computer music. I hope that doing TB2003 has nudged him more to longer instrumentals with celtic themes plus spacey over and undertones - SODE meets Ommadawn with a bit of Amarok thrown in would be fab!
