I had a really cool thought, what if we did a version of TB1 finale with all the different musicians on the board playing different instruments? Anyone interested?

I got dibs on the Bass ;)

;) ok gimme midi notes of what I should play if you want me to co-work :)

We should do it this way:
The best standardized format is midi.
So let's take the midi file from this site.
Then we'll choose someone who will give to each of collaborators a part of the midi they should do.
and then the same one will mix it all together...

what do you think?

well if you don't like this idea I am ok with that :)

Give me a month, then I could get some sound from my piano. It is just a uprighted piano, though, not a grand one. But if nobody objects to this, I would be happy to do the piano.

I like Booster's the idea, actually. Hmm... we would need to point out a leader... could get interesting!
Anyway, I like the idea.

Ok
I can take mandolin (if you won't be able to get Korgscrew which would be the best)

and I can take the distorded guitars, glockenspiel and tubular bells...

I will do synthetised acoustic guitars if we won't get a real player for it...

I'm trying to get as many people involved as possible...so if Korgscrew dosen't want to do mandolin we will use BOOsTER  instead.

I won't be a good leader!  :D

Primo: by moments I'm far to lazy to take responsibility to divide work over people
Secundo: I haven't done a single mix in my life

I suggest we wait with these issues till we have some more information about who exactly will participate.

Forgive me if I'm a bit clueless, but how do you guys go about making a recording with MIDI? You get individual samples of instruments and then sequence them together changing pitch, velocity, etc...?

Sorry, I'm a primitive multitrack guy who just layers instruments...

Of what's left, I could do the reed & pipe organ. Don't have a real one, though, but I've got an old Yamaha electronic organ that could do the job fine. The thing is I haven't got it at my place, and to get it over from my parents might prove difficult because it's huge and heavy, and I don't have any place for it in my flat either. So perhaps we'll settle for a synth organ unless someone has a real one.

well mate it's easy...
basic midi is about having zones in each instruments defined by it's note...for example zone from C1 - A2...and this zone has sub-zones defined by velocity...so there can be zone with velocity of 1 to 50 and another from 50 to 127 or basically 127 different layers...with different velocity that's the basic...

it's different when using different things like analog synths and so on...
but the basic of midi is as i wrote :)

one suggestion...

what about to all use the same midi file but just mute the other tracks?

means that if I have to do distorded guitar I will just solo this track and then export it in it's length since we all  will have same file... our renders will fit together easily :)

oh yeah, I just listened to the original recording, and I think I can handle the "spanish guitar," since I do have a real classical guitar.
