I assume you're talking a Yahoo group here.

There's nothing to stop you from opening one, as long as you don't actually use tubular.net in the name. If you want it to be an official tubular.net group, then I'm afraid we'll have to disappoint you - we obviously would have to take full reponsibility for anything going on there, and we just don't have the time or energy to do that.

We have considered various things linked to the site which would be for exchanging files, but it would be to support musicians wanting to share original work (as currently happens in the fan tracks section) rather than for sharing files of work by Mike or any other artist who isn't the original creator of the recording. If that was what you meant by 'no commercial music', then yes, we've talked about the idea, but we wouldn't do it via Yahoo.

Korkscrew,
In between the original works, and the works by Mike (rarities, bootlegs, etc) are the fan-track covers. What is the status of this in regards to what is being discussed?

Possible names might be yahoobular (dumb, I know) or other Oldfield track/song/album names. "The Source of Secrets" is a nice one, although I think someone has it as their web site.

That would probably depend on what angle we approach it from - whether we see it as an extension of tubular.net, or whether we want to go for something that can stand on its own more (so I suppose being more of a Kebawe project). It's not really something we've talked about as being anything more than a possibility, but I think it would be nice to have something that encourages and promotes original work more, perhaps leaving covers as something for the forum here. The covers are of course a lot of fun - I personally find them nice to work on between other more serious things, and it's then nice to have somewhere to share them with people who are going to enjoy them.

Still, things are moving slowly at the moment, so we'll see where we get to.

I think there are already a few Yahoo groups that share Mike Oldifeld files, actually. You might want to have a look round and see what you find.
The only Yahoo group I take an active interest in isn't one that shares files, so I can't help a lot in saying what goes on in all of them.
