Thanks Tansy :-) its nice for him to get feedback, he has been writing music for well over 28-30 years now.  He has been through some hard times personally over the last few years and he is really beginning to pick up within the last year, so any kind of feedback is surely appreciated by me on his behalf aswell :-)

Nice to have a fellow female amongst us too :-)

In two words... wonder-full ;)

I really like this song... That quiet, gentle mood... Lovely.

Sue, after four tracks downloaded I'm becoming a fan of your brother :D

Hi Ian,

I just asked him its Cubase 5, reverb presets, and an audio delta 2496 sound card (I think) in combination with a budget end Yamaha desk.  I will be taking some pics of his equipment to put up onto his site soon, so all the technical info will be there :-)

Hi Wayfarer,
he he LOL!  I am sure he will be very happy about that, long time coming LOL!  That song was done in 1981,I remember it as a 10 year old!  It did have lyrics origionally, but he decided to just do it as a guitar piece this week, kinda suits it :-)
He has a ton of music he has done of the years but I think he is really coming out with some quality stuff lately, mainly due to the upturn in his life.  I am sure you will be hearing quite a lot of it over the next few months, so still plenty to download yet  :D

Cubase 5 is probably the VST edition.  I started out with that program as part of a bundled purchase with my emu soundcard.  I have since migrated to Cubase SX 3.0 (plus updates) which is a much more powerful tool.

I really enjoyed this recent track.  Acoustic guitar always relaxes me.

Cheers,
Mike

But my reverbs in SX3 don't sound that good? I wonder if he is using another reverb like waves or something.

Talking of ups and downs, and we all get them, I have gone through times where I didn't want to make music when depressed. Its a horrible affliction, especially in the winter.  :/

Hi Mike, yes it is the VST edition, and I think he might have got it with his soundcard, and its definately cubase 5 :-) He assures me he hasn't used any other reverb apart from the presets.

Ian, It might be a combination of the mixer and that maybe.  He is pretty good at sound recording, so that could be another plus thats added to the sound.  Yeah depression isnt a nice thing, I think probably most of us have felt it at some point, in varying degrees, this last winter certainly makes you have the blues, with the sun coming out this week, it makes you feel so refreshed, even the birds in my local woods are singing their hearts out in the morning :-)

Yes, just been for a fantastic walk as the sun was shining, birds were singing and the air was fresh. There's a song there somewhere  ;)  It does me good to get out and get some air so I am inspired and refreshed to make music. I live in Cheshire where we are blessed with  lovely countryside and canals.

Ian,

He may have added some effects plugins that generate the reverb.  In my Cubase SX 3 I have (too)many 3rd party plugins for both sounds and effects that create a variety of choices and it's safe to say that not all of my reverb choices are equal in quality.

To further complicate my setup, I have a cool DSP mixer program that works both as a VST plugin AND a post-production tool.

Now if I could only stop playing with all these plugins and create some music......technology is wonderful but sometimes gets in the way of the creative process.

I'm excited to be getting a REAL piano soon so I can relearn how to play.

Yes, I know what you mean about too many sounds and FX. Its like a kid being let loose in Toys R Us all to it's self, never getting to know a single toy.

I think the convolution reverbs are very good. I have a couple that are free and sound great.

Its very typical for Mike fans to go up to the sound analyse and munch on it, perhaps my brother ought to write these messages instead of me he he, I am just a girl, I don't know about these things  ;) I am off to knit something and play with a kitten now he he.

Cubase 5 ?   I have Cubase SX3.1 and thats as far as it has gone. I have never heard of Cubase 5.

About Cubase, a little while ago I applied for a place at a local adult college for a music programme course. The only one that was available was for Cubase,so decided to go for it & get more info. The cost of the course was a bit beyond my means so that was the end of that for a while(going to aim for next time around).
My original plan had been to find out what basics are needed,so could then try & obtain these to record some music at home.In the meantime, will see who might help with any links on tubular tech.

@fastguy 101, good to have a real piano at home.I miss having access to one.Couldn't beleive my luck a few years ago (also thinking of re learning ),when I found a beautiful old piano complete with candelabra in a charity furniture store. It was such a pleasure to have, amazing sound - till I found out it was riddled with woodworm! Little blighters chomping away as I played. What an experience   :O   Wish all the best to you with your new piano. :)
