I sent Guy Fletcher an e-mail asking him if he and Mark Knopfler has ever met Mike Oldfield, and do they like his music, his reply was that he has not met Mike, but does like his music, and that he loves Tubular Bells, but he did'nt know about Mark's opinion.

I remember him when he was playing percussion for Bryan Ferry.

I can remember schoolfriends of the very early eighties insisting that part of the Moonlight Shadow guitar solo was played by Knopfler rolleyes

The solo to Moonlight Shadow does sound very Knopfler like, but there is no way that he did do it,and interestingly, when Mike plays that solo now,he plays it extended, with a fast trip-let sequence, which is very like the fast trip-let sequence of Sultans Of Swing!!!

I agree qjamesfloyd. It was just the sheer ignorance of those who felt MO was incapable of such brilliance. Older and wiser, I think it's funny now, but at the time I was livid!! mad
