Happy 250th Birthday, Mozart!  Salzburg must be an amazing place this week, particularly Friday evening, when the bells of 100 churches will ring out for seven minutes at the time of his birth!   I've read that happens at 12:45 CST (midwest USA) but also heard 8:00 PM local Salzburg time. At any rate, it will coincide with intermission at tomorrow evening's event, which is being broadcast.

For those who are new or may have missed it, here is what Mike said a few years back about Mozart during a chat session on BBC 2 radio:

Brandon > What other musicians would you like to work with in the future?
Mike > Lots but they are all dead
Joe > So who would you have worked with, given the chance?
Mike > Mozart
Nick > Would you work with Mozart if he were alive today?
Mike > Don't know about working, but we would certainly get drunk together :)

Toby > Who could drink who under the table then?
Mike > I think Mozart would win :)

A reviewer of QE2 at amazon.com called Mike "as amazing as Mozart."  Seems to me that's one of the highest compliments a contemporary composer-musician could ever receive. :)

Not as much as Mike, I'm afraid. I'd take no Mozart in a "desert island disc" collection

No. I think he'd ask if Mozart were buying.

Mmmm....indeed. :) Wonder if they'd get into an argument regarding which one's beverage was better? Mike's Guinness or ..... hmmm..... http://www.csulb.edu/~parayner/Amadeus.html :D

BTW.....I managed to tune in to a great deal of the Mozart program today (nice to be on the road! ) and heard the ringing of the bells--so moving to think that precisely at that time 250 years ago, such an amazing person was welcomed into the world--and also how quickly 250 years came and went. Talk about 10 years being caught behind you....yikes!

After following Inkanta's link, and then reading Alans post - now beginning to think crazy thoughts re: a certain few notes,on a certain new M.O album track (Rocky). Could there be a connection there, or mere coincidence?

Now to break free from the ramblings, and join in with Happy Birthday to honour a truly great composer :D

Haha! Doesn't it? I thought that maybe the label would carry the Edelweiss flower--you know--small and white, clean and bright--but it seems to just depict wheat. Hmmm....wonder what effect the flower would have on the beer's flavor if it were beered into the brew? Err...brewed into the beer? BTW....sometimes the local store carries a wheat beer, Blue Moon. In summertime, it really hits the spot after working hard in the garden or mowing the lawn. Wonder if Mike has ever tried wheat beer and what he thinks? As a Guinness person, he would probably find it dreadful.  :O Maybe not. Guess we can ask him, eh? ;)
