Happy St George's Day to you all.

Here's to a celebration of all great things English, I'll raise a pint or two of real English ale to Mike Oldfield, Queen, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones,Pink Floyd , The Who and Led Zeppelin.  On the classical front there's Sir Edward Elgar, Ralph Vaughan Williams, their music was inspired by the English countryside, as was  Hergest Ridge, (a most beautiful area IMHO).

Other great English icons include red phone/post boxes,Mini Coopers, "Deltic" Locomotives,"Mallard" and "Flying Scotsman"   the pub, real ale and cider,   Earl Grey Tea.  Yorkshire puddings, Indian food, (it's become something of an institution England, more popular than roast dinners) Fish and Chips, the seaside.   On the comedy front there's Stan Laurel,a comic genius, not forgetting Dad's Army and Ronnie Barker, also TV wise there's Doctor Who. Oh yes notforgetting Chopper bikes and also Spacehoppers,   I think originally Spacehoppers were made as physiotherapy balls, by an Italian firm, but I regard Spacehoppers as an English institution.
:)  :D .

It finally happened, I'm slightly mad , just very slightly mad

If you feel a little glum to Hergest Ridge you should come.

May I add to my list Isambard Kingdom Brunel, as without railways I wouldn't be able to get  to English towns and villages and try out real ale or cider, can't try out ale/cider if I had to drive.
I love walking in the English countryside  :D.

I was on my way out whenI originally posted,so did it in a bit of a rush and forgot to add J.R.R. Tolkien and Hobbits and Lord of the Rings to my post. I didn't realise Moseley Bog about 4 miles out of central Birmingham  was the inspiration for "The Old Forest",as many of Moseley/Edgebaston districts of Birmingham inspired locationsin LOTR.

Now playing Hergest Ridge, whilst drinking a bottle of "Hobgoblin" ale,how quaintly English is that  :).
