I have worked out the chords of the chant section from Hergest Ridge Part 2 and I think these are correct

Until last Thursday (14th Oct) I had a cheap electric and a bass to work with. I tried using various acoustic simulators and EQ to get an acoustic sound from my guitar, but it just gave a bright Strat-like tone. However, now I'm the proud owner of a brand new Taylor Big Baby :) It's not a full-size dreadnought, but comes pretty close. The sound from it is mostly on the bright side but with a great bass that projects well through the solid spruce top. It's definately going to provide a lifetime of enjoyment

Anyway here is the track. I like to think of it still as a rough demo. Most of the tracks were recorded in one take without painstakingly redoing it over and over. The original of course has lots more tracks, coming from the time of Richard Branson's alleged 'one-thousand overdubs' tag. I could probably add a Farfisa organ part but as it stands I kind of like the spaciousness of it. Please let me know what you think. Cheers :)

Nice one Jammer! As it stands it has a really nice "live" feel to it. Even made me want to hum along doing the organ bit myself. Mmmm, Mmmmm...

The answer is 42 - but what is the question?

Had this been recorded by Mike, he probably WOULD re-do it over and over until it was absolutely perfect. :) But as you, of course, aren't Mike, it's perfect as it is. :D Lots & lots of congrats. ;) The only thing is, the ending is a bit abrupt. Does it really end at 3'24'' or is there more of it?

Hi Jammer - It does sound great!
Only thing i may say is about the rythem guitar, it sounds as if your'ew using your fingers, its not clean. try nails or pick. (peak peek piek or however u spell it ) :)
i'd add another (non identical) rythem guitar track, and pan them to the sides to give it a feel of a band.
The solo sounds great - im sure that soon there will be a take with bo mistakes in it.
I like the little improvisations- keep them please for next version - well.. catch me on ICQ
gotta work now - last day of work :)

Thanks for the comments so far :)

Upon olracUK's suggestion I've now added a short fade-out. The rest of the track is the same as you've heard

Had this been recorded by Mike, he probably WOULD re-do it over and over until it was absolutely perfect.

Others would call it "destroyed".
:)

Luckily Jammer didn't do so and the result sounds absolutely marvellous.
Congrats!

Later,

You figured out the chord progression! Thanks! I think I'll be able to play it myself, now. :D

That's some great playing. Good job, really.

Thanks for posting this, Jammer. It's always refreshing to hear live acoustic work. Plus the Taylor sounds great, though a bit too bright in the mix.

Looking forward to hearing more of your recordings.

Hi Jammer

Love the way the guitar is set up, sounds very expensive, nice and glitty!  You have certainly got the feel of Hergest Ridge.  Is that real bass?  Love the human feel of the strumming and that, so much better than it being tight as a ducks bottom on midi he he :-)

I think if you had spent a little more time practising up the lead line you would have that note perfect in no time :-) Believe me you arn't far off, was beginning to sing the aaahhhh at the end, then it stopped he he!  If you re-work that demo again, perhaps if you send us a wav or Mp3 I could put the aaaaahhhh's on for you then you have a complete finished piece then :-)

well done keep it up Jammer!

Sue x

Thanks for the comments. I recorded that when the Taylor was brand-new back in October. As I wasn't too familiar with a guitar fretboard I had to memorise the positions and where to slide to, which accounts for the inaccuracies in the solo playing. That is a real bass guitar part. I recorded that some time before I had the acoustic

I'd be very happy for you to contribute 'vocals' on it :) I currently feel like recording music again and particularly re-doing some of the parts on that

Hi Jammer

My brother wants to add a few comments, the bass could do with more treble, more toppy, so sounds more of a fretty sound with the bass. Like a kind of plectrum sound. You are on the right track with the guitars, with a bit more time spent you will crack it!
Hergest Ridge is one of my favourite pieces, Mike's soul is totally in there!  Check out the electric guitar work, sounds to me like tongues of fire!

When you have finished just email a link to Sue's address spidersue@hotmail.com and we can put the vocals and what ever else you would like :-) look forward to hearing from you soooon  :D
