I was wondering what do you think about Pink Floyd, and Enigma.

In my opinion, Mike is always nr.1, but i Love PF music too. For me Floyds are on the second place. And what about David Gilmour's guitar work? After Mike, he's my favourite guitarist... "Marooned" for example...

And Michael Cretu with his "Enigma" project... Isn't it very imaginative? I love this kind of "night music"... It's really fantastic world of "turn off the sun" feelings.

Neither PF nor Enigma are very similar to MO's music from "technical" point of view, but they're quite the same becouse of the feelings. They all (and of course some other artists too) treat music like a soul translator.

What do you think?   :)

Haven't really heard Enigma so,can't comment there but Pink Floyd = brilliant to me. :)

DSOTM, once heard - never forgotten,Wish You Were Here is one of my favourite albums. The title track & Shine On You Crazy Diamond ect dosen't get much better than that IMO.

As for comparing one artist/band with another though-not fond of doing this, and couldn't say M.O is better than Floyd or,vice versa. Both do their own individual thing & absolutely brilliantly as far as I'm concerned.

But Man From The Moon-thanks for posting this topic because right now I can "hear" playing in my mind - So,so you think you can tell..... :D

I can certainly speak from an Enigma perspective - having recently discovered The Cross of Changes. What a brilliant album!! Whilst I liked bits of MCMXC AD, (Principles of Lust, Sadeness) I like all of TCOC and rarely skip anything.

Truly brilliant, but also so much like TB I and II in the way that MCMXC and TCOC have the same... construction... or feeling. I must buy Le Roi Est Mort... Vive Le Roi.

Oooh, Enigma!  :D

I've been a fan of them for less than a year and I'm just missing one album, The Cross of Changes! :P To say the least I've only gotten TBII and III in the past month and now consider myself a MO-fan too. *whistles innocently*

Anyways, The Screen Behind the Mirror and Voyageur are some of the best albums I've ever heard, but Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi! is a bit too new-agey for my taste. MCMXC a.D. is well... haven't heard it in quite some time already, but it tends to get a bit slow and downtempo at times, it's still a great album nontheless.

Latest news from the EnigmaMusic.com is the release of a new single, "Hello and Welcome" on November 26 and a boxset called 15 Years After on December 9. It has 5 CDs, a new remix album (remixed by Rollo) and 2 DVDs! (See here for more info)

Gack, guess I'll stop all of the blabbering and plugging now, I just needed to tell this piece of news to somebody.

I've heard of Pink Floyd before, but am not really into their music. Guess I've no comments about them then.

MO and Enigma do share some similarities in their music, especially in The Songs of Distant Earth, and the wind-whistling part that pops up in some places in TBIII. I know about Mike and Michael Cretu's (Enigma founder) working together in the past. I really wish MO would use it as a signature mark in his albums, but then I might be daydreaming again.

If you like "Hibernaculum" from TSODE, you will like Enigma.

the only Pink Floyd song I liked was Another Brick in the wall

As for Enigma, Excellent music! but like everyone has stated Mike comes in at Number 1.. Enigma does come in at number 2

I have all the cds of enigma and the remember the future dvd which plain and simply rules! the video's are clever and always enjoyable, especually like the music!

Mike did work with Michael Cretu on the song from Islands, " The time as come" , I would love in the future for both artists to work again

Floyd is my favourite after Mike (and Moody Blues), but Enigma I think is really great as well...
I got their first 3 albums, up to Le roi est mort..., which I like best of those three... I read that he's had 2 more albums after that one, but I think that three albums will be enough, or else it gets boring. But it's great music :)
'le roi est mort, vive le roi...'

Absolutely! They both have such emotion in their playing, they should have an emotion war  ;)

My advice would be to start at the beginning. The whole 'ethos' of the enigma project is - apparently - to communicate the same 'essence' within each seperate album, a bit like the way TBI does with TBII. So, Start with MCMXC A.D., but shortly follow that up with The Cross of Changes, etc. to get the feeling of 'progression' within your listening experiences.

I'd say listen to Le Roi Est Mort, Vive Le Roi! first, it ressembles the most Mike's music (The Songs of Distant Earth). It is also their best album in my opinion, I like it more than TSODE.

Many thanks for the ideas,I usually do tend to start at beginnings just as reading chapter one of a book or like first hearing M.O Tubular Bells, but will go along to HMV & see what they have from your albums mentioned :)
Cannot beleive this band has escaped me though & might have heard something from them, without knowing their name - often remember music but not always artist names/lyrics :p

In my opinion, the greatest Enigma album is number 3 - "Le Roi Est Mort..." But 1, 2 and 4 are g r e a t too. Only "Voyager" is different, like Cretu wanted. At first I was surprised, mayby eaven a little bit dissapionted, but after few times it has grown on me, so now I can say that I really like it. But I still think that "V." can't be compared with previous 4 records. Enigma 1 to 4 - beautiful, brilliant. Enigma 5 ( "Voyager" ) "only" good. That's what I feel. Form me, "5" dosen't have enought melodies, and to much electronic stuff. But - as I said before - I really like it after all.

And if you like electronic music, you'll love Kraftwerk.

Well, I don't know Kraftwerk to good, but I'm afraid that it would be "to electronical" for me.... But I can be wrong.

Tunes are - in my opinion - the moust important thing. Electronic stuff - like everything - can be used in many different ways. Personally I like the way Cretu uses it on "Enigma" albums, or Mike on "TSODE" or "L&S", or Deep Forest on "Lullaby" or "The Sound Of Africa" songs. But I don't like, when electronic sounda are treated as a tool to make nosiy rythm without melody.

Personally, I think Kraftwerk actually has one of the most strongest melodies in the electronical music genre. Beats, rhythm, tunes, they've handled all of those in a minimalist style perfectly! Can't say about other artists like Aphex Twin though. Mp3.com used to have streaming audio from Minimum-Maximum, their live album but it seems that it was taken down just recently.  :/

Anyways, Deep Forest doesn't really excite me but The Songs of Distant Earth really stacks up and it's a great album. :)

I've only heard "Porcelain" and "Beautiful" so far... I think he's good, but I've got nothing else to say about him... :p

Enigma are cool, i loved the first album, The Cross of Changes was rather good too, third one had some good tunes on, haven't got the 4th one, yet, but the music is very good on all albums, some of the floyd stuff is good, only just discovering it tho, i know Mr Cretu did some work on The Time Has Come, i also heard a rumor many years ago that Mike played guitar on an Enigma track, although i cant remember which one  :/

Moby is very very cool. Play is one of my favorite albums, there is not one bad track on that album!  :D
