Yet there seems to be another SG (backup ? ) on a stand just behind him. So how many did he own and what have become of the spare ones ? Back to top

yanouch65 Group: Members Posts: 680 Joined: Feb. 2006 Posted: June 01 2006, 17:08 Hi    (sorry for my English) manintherain, the big specialist of Mike's intruments gave me some explanations a month ago: Mike had three different SG Type Gibson: 1)The first, being a so called Type 2 from 1966, has been stolen during the recording process of Ommadawn. 2)The second is the one Mike is playing in this DVD. Mike bought this guitar around 1974/1975 in order to finish the recording process of Ommadawn.This guitar has not three drillholes behind the bridge. This model dates from 1962. 3)And the third one he bought in order to have it modified with a Roland guitar synthesizer. It got called the Gibsynth after that. It has three drillholes behind the bridge.This model dates from 1963. You can see these three holes on some pictures..... So, I think that the Gibson you can see behind him at 33:57 is the Gibson with three drillholes, called Gibsynth later Maybe, could manintherain confirm that all? Hope you understand those explanations....... Does anybody have another informations? While watching the DVD, I was actually wondering if he had any 'spare' instruments on stage just in case something happens with his main axe, and then there was this shot with another SG on its stand. Taurus Outcast Group: Members Posts: 69 Joined: June 2004 Posted: June 18 2006, 16:15 There are 2 sg's at the montreaux concert. 1 which mike plays throughout with white tuning pegs, and the backup with metal tuning pegs.  The 1961/2 gibson i suspect is the backup, seeing as it has had machine heads changed according to the instruments section (from metal to white as seen in recent photos).  the sg mike is playing has white tuning pegs, i think is the 1963, which later became the gibsynth, as this guitar has not had its machine heads changed. Also the 1963 has no drill holes behind the bridge or anywhere else come to that. Back to top

By the way, Taurus Outcast, I am looking for informations about Mike's Gibson SG? Have you got some? Taurus Outcast Group: Members Posts: 69 Joined: June 2004 Posted: June 21 2006, 11:46 lol, im sorry, the user sallyangie is my mother, a huge fan of mike oldfield ever since tubular bells, and who has seen mike countless times.  ive grown up listening to mike oldfield, and mike's music inspired me to play guitar. my mother bought both the prs custom 24 and the 1963 gibson, and i am ever so fortunate to be able to play these guitars at home, and to see them hanging on the wall.
