I have some midi keyboards and a midi cable, but when I plug the keyboards into the computer, nothing happens. I can hear midis on the computer and the keyboards plug into each other fine, so what's the problem? Do I need a sequencer to do that, and if so what is a nice cheap one to download? I would like to be able to use the sound banks on the sound card, and was hoping to just connect the keyboard to the computer and play some stuff and hear it on the computer with differant tones.

well you may need to give a bit more info.  But yes you probably need some softwear.  I'm probablky not the person to tell you which as I use Cubase VST on th ePC adn Logic on the Mac, which are both not cheap (£100 for Logic Express).  Do a search on Midi sequencers on gooooogl and see what you can find as share wear.

You may also try Psycle, which I think has MIDI support, and is free.

I downloaded it just now. I don't know what it does or how to use it but it's there. Once I figure it out I'll re-record some of my tracks.

I would also recommend you to get some VST plugins, because it's not easy to get the sound you want from Psylce's instruments. For example, you can search for some free here.

But be aware that playing live with Psycle is not a piece of cake, since the start and end of the notes are restricted to a time, depending on the tempo and the lines-per-beat specified. You can adjust the time offset for each note (start and end), but doing so with a lot of notes can be too difficult. It may change with the next release, not sure.

Actually I can't get it to put out any sound at all. When I follow the first step of the tutorial, and push the buttons on the computer keyboard nothing happens.

Strange... have you followed all the steps?

I don't have the program here, but try these steps (and just these):

- Start the program (of course ;) ).
- Double clic in the blue (?) window.
- Choose a machine (saaay... Arguru Synth).
- Connect the new machine to the main module: press the right mouse button in the machine, place the cursor over the main module, and release the button. You should have created a line between them.
- Just push your computer keyboard buttons (ZSXDCVGBHNJMQ2W3ER5T6Y7UI9O0P).

You should get some sound  :/
