I was trying to come up with the funniest one I could, like Fine Young Cannibals doing a cover version of "Hungry Eyes", or "Barbra Streisand sings Rage Against the Machine". Another funny one that occurred to me: Montserrat Caballe of course did a duet with Freddy Mercury... just imagine if she'd been pressured to do a follow up with a cover of "Fat Bottomed Girls"     Back to top

Tangentially to this topic it's amusing how a new band can get free publicity by adopting something already in the public eye. "The Police" is an obvious example, "Hatfield and the North" are another, but my favourite is "Heaven 17", a recording of which appears in the record shop scene in A Clockwork Orange. A particularly desperate singing wannabee could call himself "Tweedy Teentwirp" - already mentioned some years ago on this forum - and get himself free publicity courtesy of the Uncle Scrooge comic! One funny possibility would be for someone to do a vocoder version of Paul Simon's "You can Call me Al" and rename it "You can  call me AI" (Artificial Intelligence). Back to top
