I know that it's kind of useless to stick around moaning and ranting, since I won't change anything anyway. It is one thing when you visit board like AudioGalaxy and make bad comments about Limp Bizkit and such, and then the kids will come and say "if you don't like it, don't listen to it!", and will make you feel like a jerk. Now, it is one thing when a bad band makes bad music - indeed, if you don't like it, it's stupid to listen to it just to criticise. The problem is when a CRAP band like Limp Bizkit takes 'Behind Blue Eyes' and completely terrorises it. Now, it's not just a question of making bad music. This is a question of INSULTING the legacy of a genius like Pete Townshend, and I feel physically sick when I look at Fred Durst's straight face as he sings as if he owned the song, and completely nullifies the singing talent of Roger Daltrey. All kids will go wild over Limp Bizkit, stupid kids who know Pete Townshend as merely some paedophilic fella who wrote 'Fiddle About' and nothing else. I swear if I were Roger Daltrey, I would get Fred Durst by the neck and inflict all sorts of horrible pain over him. But what's even worse to think is that this was NOT the only occurrance of such thing: Avril Lavigne had the guts and gall to cover Bob Fuckin' Dylan, for Chrissake. Who, WHO does she think she is? Does she think she deserves the honour of licking Dylan's shoes?

whoa, it's a cover? didn't know that. i hate that song, it's annoying (the lb version that is). durts' crap vocals are simply not good enough for such a simple composition, i downloaded the original and that Pete Townshend dude, actually makes it work.

as for bastardizing classic songs in general, well that's seems to be pretty common nowadays unfortunately :(

What annoys me is that like Q!,lots of people these days don't know some songs are covers, and they will put a song like Mandy by Westlife at number 1,but if it was re-released by Barry Manilow it would'nt even reach the top 20,so,what does that say about the state of the charts/music industry. It's all about bloody image, there are too many covers out there,a group called scissor sisters is about to release a cover of Pink Floyds classic Comfortably Numb, which is looking like going to number 1,which would be ironic,i have'nt heard the cover yet,so i can't comment to much, but where has all the originality in music gone?.

Well, I think you're absolutely right, Sir Mustapha and it's valid to complain about those horrible sorts of covers...
Novaspace is responsible for the latest scam ('Beds are burning';) :/  I'm reluctant to put down the likes of her but there are too many contemporary so-called artists around who shouldn't become entitled to do uninspired and distasteful cover versions of the truely great originals of yore!
But eventually they get away with it... So who's to blame?
The people who decide airplay? The cranky kids, 'poofters' and punters who'll listen to this crap and go apeshit or the
'artists' themselves who don't give a f***?
What can I say? Let them starve?!

'Beds are burning' from Novaspace...
A contribution? My arse!

What about Prezioso covering "Crime of passion" & people in discos going absolutely wild on it?
Once I spotted a friend of mine in a disco, groovin' like mad, and the following exchange took place:

Me: "You know what? This song is by Mike Oldfield."
My friend: "Mike who?"
Me: "The one who did Tubular Bells."
My friend: "Aaaahhh, the Exorcist guy! Pfui, he copied Goblin!!"

:D

somethings can be worse than a crap cover - a cover which is an exact copy.
Latest criminal - "all i wanna do is have some fun". A song 5 seconds old and being copied 100% by a new teenage wannabe.
Why do they bother? Why do people buy it? If you like it, get the original.
Mike has covered (as complete covers) 3 songs, but each time put his own unique stamp on them. Well maybe Arrival was pretty close to the original.

The answer is 42 - but what is the question?

I've only heard the original Arrival once but I found it very different from Mike's version.

The new All I Wanna Do is not a 100% cover, there are some word changes.
I would'nt say the ABBA version of Arrival is very different from Mikes, the only real difference is you hear Mike's guitar a lot more than any guitar on the original.
