Alas, here is my latest song: "I'd Rather Be Home", an easy-going 3 minute pop song. Like most of my other songs, all instruments in it were recorded with MIDI, but with one crucial difference: there was an extra care put on the sound of the instruments to make them "realistic", to see how it affects the actual song. Oh, and there are vocals too!  With lyrics and all. But this time, there isn't any speed manipulation and chipmunk effects. But I did hold a cup in front of my mouth and sang into it, and the final recording was filtered through an EQ. The effect was to make it sound very poor, in contrast to the rest of the song. I initially wanted to drown it in reverb, but my attempts were working against me. So the filtering was preferred.

Here are the lyrics and credits (again, with humourous purposes only! ).

I like it lots!

I think you've found the ideal ground between the mainstream easy-listening of Musics for Highways and the highly experimental Tetrology. It's quirky enough to keep me listening, but I don't think other posters will find it obscure (if they know your music). I thought they improve the track and stop it being mundane

You've also improved with your sequencing skills. The instruments did sound more realistic, not just in terms of the RealFonts(?) you were using but the way they were entered in.

No... I downloaded it but couldn't play it either. Don't suppose you have a version on wax cylinder?

I hope you're not using Windows Media Player, are you? Try Winamp, already!

I did have that once, but hated it with a deep loathing. So I removed it and went back to the wax cylinder.

Alan

Might I recommend you upgrade to 8 track cartridge?

;)

Microsoft or Orbis seem resiliant to support each other's technology. I encode my ripped CDs into ogg now, but if I have to show audio files to anyone not on this board it has to be mp3.

Winamp isn't bad, but the latest version uses up way more resources than WMP. Also on my CD drive it loads the tracks into memory rather than keeping it constantly spinning. This means I can't listen to albums like TSODE comfortably on it so I have to resort to Windows Media Player for CDs

I guess if Sir Mustapha did have the means of recording it to wax cylinder and send it to you, it would melt before it left Brazil - think of the insurance!

Wow! Did Thomas Edison invent that as well? Then it must be good!

No problem. Jules has entirely convinced me. I'll be very content with a version on 8-track cartridge.

Do you think Elements will come out on Betamax one day?

Hmm, and i was thinking of upgrading my Grundig video2000. Anyone know of an MVR version for Sinclair ZX81?

No. You're probably thinking of the rumour that if you stack dozens of ZX81s on top of each other in an arch formation held together by sellotape, and sit inside it whistling the tune for the snow cavern flight, you start to feel like a snowy owl. But it doesn't work. When I tried it out, I felt more like an idiot, really. It might work with Commodore 64s though.

(By the way, are we off topic, or what?)

Ok, back on topic....

I've got a few of your tunes Sir M, not many but a few. So, here's my own thoughts on this, your latest attempt at climbing the charts of international stardom.

Nice sounds, simple tune, not much progression, didn't take me anywhere.

Sorry, but as a basic cloth eared nincompoop i can only comment on the basics, not the technicallities. And it just didn't ring my bell.
