Here's a sarcasm-filled discussion of William Shatner's pending trip into space on Richard Branson's yet-unbuilt space ship. It is full of sarcasm, insults of both Shatner and Branson, and discussion of the Virgin empire. No mentions of Oldfield that I've seen yet:
Slashdot: Shatner Aims for Real 'Star Trek'

On a related subject, I'm wondering if Oldfield music will by played in Branson's new reality TV show which is going to air very soon in prime time on a major US TV network.

I'm sure Mike would love to have some of his music played aboard that spaceship. It would be the trekkie's ultimate dream!

I guess Shatner would like to play something by himself... maybe his personal version of, say, "Space Oddity"?

Mike should be invited to be on this trip also. That would be great for Mike, and we know he likes space stuff, like Star Trek. And maybe inspires him to write some music!

Does Mike get along with Richard Branson now?

I think I recall him saying, recently, that they are okay with each other now, and that the only think that still irks Mike is that Sir Branson can't pronounce "Tubular" proberly. It's always "chooblar". I read that on an interview in this website. Don't ask me which one.

...and we will see if the new album has a song about the reconciliation, just like "Flying Start" was about reconciling with Kevin Ayers.

Branson's new "reality show" debuted a couple of nights ago. It is free of Oldfield music. I really think that "Make Make" would have been a great theme song, and they could have played the morse code section of "Amarok" every time he had to kick a contestant off. The theme song they use instead is "Live and Let Die".

It is combination of existing reality shows: the prize and business competition of Donald Trump's "The Apprentice", the daredevil stunts (but no bug eating) from "Fear Factor", and the globetrotting of "Great Race". I can't imagine that this show will do very well, especially compared to The Apprentice. Everyone here knows who Donald Trump is, but few know much about the Virgin companies let alone who Richard Branson is.

"Branson in the Rain"

He's the one who first signed you on...
He had his chance, he just threw it all away.
Living in a spice-world that you'd never be a part of
Then it was time to walk away.

[ Chorus ]

You couldn't stay, no, you couldn't stay.
Give him "Heaven's Open" and got on the train.
And yet now he's standing here tonight
At live "Tubular Bells 3", he's a man in the rain.
