Hi,

listening to mots...I wished for my own accoustic/classical work. So I started noodling and writing for guitar and choir. And my own muse struck a chord in my heart.

I wish to say thanks to mike also, because without him I wouldn't have written this track "The Need for Sacrifice".

It's on the usual place; my hyves.

I hope you enjoy listening as much i did the writing

Nice and hypnotic but the orchestral sounds were a bit 'fuzzy' (which might be due to compression tomp3), what sample library do you use?

Cheers,
Terry.

Not bad. I like it. Just one suggestion....there is way too much use of reverb. It sounds like all of the instruments had to much reverb individually, then more reverb was added to the total mix. Can you remix it and remove about 50% of the reverb? I like it tho! Question. Did you record this on a PC with something like Cakewalk music creator/sonar or onto a HD recorder? Good music!

Hi Jesse,
I agree with Ginger Daddy and Scatterplot, the sounds could a use a little improvement, but at the same time I feel bad about saying that since my own sounds are crap compared to yours. The guitar melody is very good, it could easily last longer and still work well.

thanks for the constructive feedback!

Ginger Daddy:
I use several libraries. The Harp is from Garritean orchestra, the guitar is realguitar, the choir is a mix between reason 4 and another synth. I don't know what you mean by fuzzy though?

Scatterplot:
I could, I use a lot of reverb on the acoustic guitar. That one just sounds so dry when left without reverb. I might try cutting it down a notch, i just love my new reverb plugin.

Realguitar is quite good, what version do you have? I have rg too, it's ok as an accompaniment but I can't make it work as a lead sound, it's kind of thin and I couldn't improve it much with reverb. Yours sounds good, did you use other fx besides reverb? What is this reverb plugin you use?

I think I should have used the word "muddy" rather than fuzzy.... I think it's because of the amount of reverb as Scatterplot suggested. Although it may be because different  instruments are sharing the same frequency range at the same time but doing different things (I'm not an expert on this but have heard experts go on and on about it!;)

Cheers,
Terry.

This is the reverb plugin. It's fantastic. I have a piano plugin I felt uncomfortable with, almost regretted buying it. But with this reverb plugin it suddenly sounds more alive.

I might have overdone it slightly with the need for sacrifice though.

But about realguitar: it just needed a little bit of this reverb to sound more real and more alive. Otherwise it all sounds thin and dry.

There are some good tutorials regarding reverb at musiciansfreind.com and elsewhere. I can't say I ever used software reverb. I've had so many Alesis units its a joke, still have a nanoverb and a Behringer mixer with FX built in. You can get some fairly cheap multi FX guitar "boxes" even with midi interfaces and deep level editing of your FX. I picked one up, a "Johnson J-station" a few years ago for about $70. I'll never part with it. Have fun......

I'll have to look into that. Basically my weak point is EQ. I just never use those damn things, but i ought to learn how to use them properly

Musiciansfreind has a tutorial on EQ. There's tons of midi/git/music advice out there. One good thing to do, is burn a CD of your test mix and play it in your car/freind's cars/other stereos and make notes. Then go back and tweek again.....If it sounds great in a car, boombox and home system then your just peachy.

you're the man! I'll go check right into that.

Basically I expanded my hyves with a new tune "de nachtvlucht", and I started a myspace.

www.myspace.com/jessegorter

the latter features two tubular bells inspired tunes.
