Quote (TOBY @ April 18 2004, 15:15) | Mike's relationship with his fans isn't exactly great anyway despite the fact that a handful of us played Maestro with him. I think he'll need to do more than that to convince some of us that he actualy cares anymore. Though I'm sure underneath it all he does. |
And also on the two webchats in 2002 and 2003 @ BBC Radio 2.
I have the impression that Mike's relationship with his fans can be improved in a certain way that can benefit him in terms of promotional stuff. Many of us have got so nice ideas and some of us have done great imputs on this area, and that could be a interesting point to analyse.
I note that Mike doesn't like to talk about his music to his fans, and fans wanna discuss with him about his music,so there's a problem in here.AFAIK,Mike doesn't like to have an aftershow session, where he can really get in touch with us.Of course there's the personal factor - he's quite too shy - but,it's one of the few chances he has to have real feedback from us.About playing Maestro with him is a cool step, but is not "that thing",you know.IMO,Mike doesn't care with the critics and with the things we say about his music - he creates music for himself, and if we like or not is really doesn't care at all.Getting in touch with his fans seems to be a moment of idolizing him, which is something he doesn't like at all and he gets a bit mad with it.
Reading past Dark Star issues,I've never seen Mike going back on an album, and telling how was the whole process of composing and recording,it seems to be that he doesn't wanna to tell anyone what is like...and is the sort of info most fans wanna know.
Dark Star has done a nice job,but IMHO,there's a lot more to do as the official MO Magazine, approved by Oldfield Music Ltd,to offer more to us,the fans.I've always imagined if a big poll between the fans to see what we want on the mag,as well as to help Mike in a certain way to be well promoted should be done.
Some of my pennies on.
