Can anyone confirm or deny that the song "Discovery" is based on the film 2001 A Space Odyssey? There are several references in the lyrics (most obviously the song title) which could be interpreted this way, and Mike is known to be a fan of Arthur C Clarke's work.

I always thought it was a more personal song than that, like many of the songs on that album. I had thought it was more about self-discovery or phsychiatrists or something. Anyone know for sure?

Welcome to tb.net by the way burnleyboy. You might want to check out the discussion section of the site under "albums -> discovery" which has lots of talk about the album (and with hindsight might have been a better place for this post than the "general discussion" section but I think we've got to forgive that on a first post! )

I can deny that! Doesn't sound like a "hidden message"-type lyric to me. It's propably about Branson not delivering enough royalites!
