Yes, it is OK. UFO is a good band. Even if they weren't, it would still be OK. Multiple bands / artists using the same images as covers isn't unusual at all.

It may be OK, but IMHO it's not very tastefull to copy an existing cover.
If it were altered in any way it would be something new, i think.
This one resembles the Oldfield one too much.

Very unfortunate...

Highly embarrassing...

Sometimes ignorance is bliss!

Anyway, it made smile!

Yeah, but the cover you made was surely inspired by...
You've created something new out of existing ideas.
Nothing wrong with that.

@ ekloef: that cover design is by Storm Thorgerson, a.k.a. the founder of Hipgnosis - the ones who did all the famous covers for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Alan Parsons etc. etc. etc. :). Storm is not extraneous at all to recycling his designs, or in giving them to different people, as long as people pay him to use the image. He says this in his latest book, The Raging Storn. He also says that his studios, rather than the artists, own the copyright to the images, so any artist is free to re-use them. It's not ripping-off or anything like that. However, on the other hand, there are Thorgerson-designed images whose copyright is actually owned by the artists: this is the case of all the images he made for Pink Floyd and Muse. Which, indeed, are unique. :)

Thanks UGO.

Very interesting info.

I am well aware of Storm Thorgerson. He and Hipgnosis has made many great album covers.

Usually I can spot a Storm cover, there is something about them, but this one did not ring a bell (even Tubular). But now that I know it is him I can definately see his "fingerprint" over it...

Once again thanks UGO.

@ ekloef: you're welcome. If you manage to find somewhere the photo that StormStudios did for The Plea's Dream Stadium (it's in their book The Raging Storm... apparently it's nowhere on the Web) you will definitely notice a similarity with the original pic above. About the pic itself, well, I did identify it as Storm Thorgerson's work as soon as I first saw it. Maybe you're not familiar with his latest (late 1990s and 2000s) work, while I definitely am, as I own 3 books of his recent work. :D
