Well, I said when my move was over I was going to buy a Gibson Les Paul, but I changed my mind. I figure, I've got bass, acoustic and electric guitars already. With gas at $4.50 per gallon here in Austin and on the rise, it's time to think practical(and fun!;). I started looking for gas sipping scooters, at least 125cc. Gotta do at least 50mph tops but get 80-90 mpg. But when I surfed looking at all these chinese made vehicles....Q-link was interesting. But for the same price I saw the Honda Rebel 250cc motorcycle. Best bang for the buck($3200), 70+ mpg and a real motorcycle. So that's my present I'm getting this month. I think in the next 5 years a lot of people will be riding gas sipping 2-wheelers instead of cars. It may only go 80mph top speed, but I think it's an awesome looking bike. Happy tubularizing!

Jim

Even at $4.50 a gallon that works out at just under  £2.30 w I wish I paid £2.30 for a gallon of petrol here in England. At £110.9 a litre (4.55l to a gallon)that works out at just under £5.05,  even more for a diesel  £5.51.   I've a small-medium 1.2 engined Vauxhall Corsa, which is quite economical to run, but at the way petrol prices are going.  Once buying a diesel car would be the cheaper option, but it would seem not anymore, I don't know why diesel is so much more expensive    :O , and the modern "City Diesel" is less polluting than diesel fuels of old, and greener than petrol.
Yep I know that might not sound hippy talk, but to me being a hippy is being anti government/establishment, at least until we get a government that will listen to English citizens.

What I'm saying is it's fine for government ministers to travel around in gas guzzling cars, and fly halfway around the world, in an attempt to stop global warming , but making us citizens travel on dirty smelly diesel belching busses.  I think that busses, especially empty ones, as they so often are are much more polluting than cars
:p .
Sorry for the rant, but I think this is how many English/British citizens feel.

Same deal in America. However we can try and make a difference. I've been buying Mazda's for 20+ years, even tho they are fuel efficient, it's just not good enough.  I remember when I was a kid I spent '67 to '69 in Taiwan. Don't ask me how they did it, but you would see a family of 4(mama-san, papa-san and 2 ninos) all on a Honda 50 scooter. The streets were filled with those scooters. An entire family justa cruisin' on down ta tung road at 30mph. Pretty funny. I really oughta re-think the guitar tho. You can't get killed flying off a Les Paul at 60mph. I did hear about a guy who was electrocuted to death by his amp/git. Jim McCarty I think it was....

Same thing happened to the guy in Maggie Bell's Stone The Crows.Forget his name though.
With regards to Moon's comments about MPs -RIGHT ON SISTER!!!! (and i make no aplogies for the multiple exclamation marks whatsoever).Make the buggers travel the same way as the rest of the citizens they 'govern' and lets see how long it takes them to start bleeting! No seats on the train?Deal with it!
I don't drive.Financially it's somply not viable but i use trains to get around. My (naive i guess)hippy rationale for this is that the trains (I hate bus travel) will run if i'm on it or not.If i have a car it's for one person instaed of however many your average Virgin Train holds.By turning the key to start the car i contribute to the pollution on a personal level.
Before you all send your emails attacking this point i know that the car is an essential part of the working life of most people.I manage without as transport is laid on to my work place (and it's always full)and anywhere else i want to go i'm prepared to rough it(besides getting lost in the view isn't too good an idea when you're in charge of a couple of tons of steel). What i object to is people using their car to make journeys they could easily walk (to the shop down the road for example). If it's not raining enjoy the air and walk it.GRRRRR. ;)

all those companies makes it more bizarre that he no longer has Virgin Records - that has been sold in the UK to Zavvi, or Virgin Music - which I think was sold to EMI.

I really hate thoose saviors who tell us all to eat green, use sunlight energy, don´t smoke, don´t drive gass guzzling cars....fuck em´  I say

I drive - on purpose - a gasguzzling truck, I smoke cigars - because I like it, and just a few weeks back when there was this hyped "earth hour"  shit (all people should turn off the light) - I turned my light on even in the daylights, used my microwave a lot and used my owen...
Nobody...NOBODY...tells me how to live my life and use or misuse earths energy ressources!    :(

Ps: Al Gore>>>BITE ME!

Branson does`nt own the fuel yet.So maybe that`ll be the next thing Virgin Petrol..Where the price ain`t virgin on the ridiculous.Ah we can but dream...It`s kind of strange that the hippy capitalists have got Richard carbon footprint airlines Branson as their ideal role model. While the punks have got Malcom McLaren???Last seen not appearing on I`m A Celebrity Get Me To A Tabloid Newspaper..So ok maybe it`s not strange at all in fact.

So groups of people that the public don`t trust or who we no longer have faith in anymore continues to increase.First up it was the politicians, religous leaders and the media. And now slowly but surely we become more and more dis-trusting of doctors, surgeons and scientists.Doctors and surgeons for sure nowadays isn`t it...Ingrowing toenail....Minor "procedure"....Blood poisoning/MRSA/Flesh eating superbug....Limb Amputation...Goodnight Vienna. ;)

I tell you what mate I`ll just cut me own toe off right here with a rusty hacksaw and clean it up with some savlon and a band aid.Job done!..

And onto scientists and the whole climate change end of the world scenario.Somebody obviously forgot to tell those guys about the not trusting of media/ex politicians bit.Because ffs those guys statistics are absolutely everywhere. You just cant escape from those bloomin` numbers.Btw since when did science become solely about statistics? That was always maths when I was at school, what the hell happened there?..But then if you dig a little deeper you can find out there`s actually a large number of scientists opposed to the theory of climate change. And not all of them are connected to oil companies either. And damn it if those guys have`nt got some pretty fine statistics of their own in fact..Ah it`s a media cover up I tell you..Conspiracy! Conspiracy!

In all honesty I don`t know who to believe really. But imo it makes sense to turn stuff off if you`re not using it.It makes sense to recycle paper, tin, glass, etc cos the earth ain`t a bottomless pit.And it makes sense to walk those shorter journeys for so many reasons I`m gonna` conserve my own energy by not listing em` all down....This post was brought to you by someone working outside of the media, with zero understanding of both science and politics.I`m also not affiliated with any religous groups cults or otherwise.Although I have seen The Wicker Man,and I`ve recently listened to a talking book by the Dalai Lama narrated by Richard Gere.Don`t know if that counts though?.. :D
