I just recently thought of this. i got hooked on Tubular Bells not because of the bells @ the end. It was because of that 5-6 minute opening. there's just something totally captivating about it, and i love it.

Same with Tubular Bells 2. although the bells sounded better in this album, it was still that opening theme that grasped my attention.

However in Tubular Bells 3, i came for the theme...but stayed for the bells. the bells in FATC are just outstanding. the power that they had was waaaaaay more intense than in previous albums, and to me it surpassed that opening theme (variation or original).

Yeah, that theme is pretty much what makes the album... It's no wonder they edited the opening theme as an individual track on Elements. Actually when I first heard TB (the original, haven't heard any of the others yet) I was rather disappointed of how the rest of the album sounded. It was good, but none of it surpassed the grandeur of the opening theme.

Elements was my second album, and after I heard 'Sentinel', I just had to get my hand on the TBII album  :)  It was nice, but not as awesome as 'promised' by Sentinel on Elements.

I Haven't got the same opinion about TBI, but I think it's true most people buy it because they have seen the exorcist or at least heard the intro. Anyway, those opening themes do their jobs well.
