Hello Ian,

Love the guitars!  The first minute or so builds up nicely, and while I like the melody at 1:15 onwards, it's a bit lacking until 1:45 (but not much).  From there it sounds good.  I think it could do with a bit more development, it doesn't go anywhere really, but I do still like it.  With some more work this could be really, really special.  it's definitely got lots of potential.

I don't know.  I think people do listen, as the tracks I post here get a number of hits on my web site (not just topic views), but very few people comment.  This seems to be a very common theme wherever you go - it's not just here...  :/

Ian,

I'm one of those "listeners" but I don't normally respond because I'm at work and can't take the time to post.

I like your music quite a bit and also think your production skills are well above average.   Your songs tend to create a musicial landscape but I agree with Moz that there's great potential in your work but something's missing (?)

Regarding the song "June" here's my thoughts.  The intro conceptually is good but just a tad long for my taste.  When you introduce the guitar I would try bring it in earlier (fade in) and overlay over the intro riffs and THEN create a bridge of just the guitar.  I also see an opportunity to elevate this song by adding a strong, harder-edged lead electric guitar over the top.  I also could see a soulful sax lead incorporated here as well.

Cheers Mate!

Thanks for your comments. I agree somewhat what you say but its finding that "missing "element that is hard. A lot of people do say that my music is cinematic and creates a kind of soundtrack. Thanks for your comments on my production, very encouraging.

As for sax...urgh...absolutley not. Then it would be cheesy but electric guitars, yes I have thought of that. I think I will try and develop it more as its one of my favourites.

I like my music to mature and sit as there is a honeymoon period when you are really into something you are doing but once you get over that, you hear things a bit clearer and take them further.

Thanks folks.

Ian,

It's amazing to let a composition sit for awhile and then listen after a few weeks....I'm my own worst critic thus I never seem to complete anything.

Your aversion to the sax suggestion is understandable BUT maybe your thinking was along the lines of (ugh)Kenny G.  I had in mind something more like the sax solo's a la Pink Floyd or a "dirty" sax influence from the delta blues world.

Wish I could play the sax to demonstrate what I mean.

Noticed you live in England.  I had the pleasure of living there for a couple years and enjoyed the pubs.  Okay, I enjoyed the beer and darts.

Cheers,
Mike

I just hope you were on the receiving end of one and NOT the other!

No, I just don't like sax 99% of the time. Pink Floyd got away with it though  ;)

NOOOOOOOOoooooooooo..... not sax!!

I've had a few listens and I think what you've got on your hands here Ian is a song. The next push for me would be a female vocals in a soul/ambient style, cool words of course! And  let the clever little instrumentals breath around it. I know it's not your core style but in the context of your other pieces I think it would still work. Evevrything else spot on.

Ian, I was trying to listen to the tracks at myspace and getting really frustrated with the long buffering thing. Myspace just gets too busy once all those Yanks get home from work.

You really need to host your music elsewhere as well as myspace to let us fans enjoy your music. Myspace is great for building contacts and fans, but doesn't replace a decent site with more detail and faster connection.

Anyhoo...keep going, production is superb, tunes lovely and did I read you'd got a contract or something?
