A while ago I signd up on the MO.com site for any news/updates that might be happening. I thought it would be quite something to get a text and read the name Mike Oldfield in the message box  ( OK, so a little bit daft of me too, but imagination is a free & wonderful thing! and i can dream can't I? !! ) Well I've heard nothing and wondered if anyone else here has? If there's nothing happening then OK, but I don't want to miss out! I'm usually about three months behind everyone else, it seems to me!

And another thing, I received my copy of Dark Star the other day. Always a pleasure to get that. It's true it didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, BUT, and this is important I feel, it is just so nice to be able to sit and read in comfort without the whurr of the fan in the computer...it's not loud at all, but it's there, constantly droning gently away! and I love Tubular.net very much but will always greatly enjoy the reading of words on bits of paper and the looking at pictures on pieces of paper! So I really hope that it can continue, and want to support it. Wondered what everyone else feels, I know we have been over this once or twice before, but in my view, there is still a need for both , ie a magazine and internet site to visit. :)

I`ve never read the Dark Star magazine. But I remember years ago a friend of mine recieved a copy of it delivered through his door one morning completely out of the blue.He was a big Mike Oldfield fan and everything but he just was`nt the type of bloke who`d subscribe to that kind of thing you know.Plus this was way before the internet and online album buying etc,so where the hell they got his address from was a complete mystery.I can remember the way he told me about it at the time he seemed somewhat suspicous that I`d done it.I think you`d probably have to know the guy to appreciate this story really.I hav`nt seen him for years now sadly because we kind of fell out with each other big time.I would`nt go as far to say he was kind of a loner or anything, but he was a real bona-fide fully fledged enigma  if you know what I mean? But despite all that or maybe partly because of it I don`t know?He had a great way of making big connections with people sometimes. It was kind of like that magazine had sought him out or something by some unknown weird cosmic design.Like it was straight from the "Dark Star" itself somehow?...Whatever the hell that means??? :p ..I really miss him now I must admit. He had a profound effect on my life in one way or another..And now I don`t even know where the guy lives?..It`s sad when you lose touch with people like that, even when you don`t really know who they are at all?

So for myself not reading Dark Star, and then not even having access to the internet until about five/six years ago.Well it was a real eye-opener when I first stumbled upon this website not long after.Apart from album reviews in magazines and the opinions of a handful of friends who`d allow me to play Mike`s music to them I suppose. You know for well over twenty years I was just kind of guessing what other people thought of these albums. It`s kind of corny but that music played a major part of my life one way or another. And now already my memory kind of gets fuzzy with stuff I`ve read on here sometimes.Like did I always know how massive Amarok was for instance?...I can`t honestly remember now because it was always so "massive" for me getting near two decades ago already. But it`s great to read about it all online no doubt about it.Even when you think you`ve read it all, there`s always another fresh and different perspective waiting round the very next post...And yes the fan noise can be annoying I must admit.By which I mean the computer fan of course no double meaning intended there at all folks.Imo the more Mike fan noise the better...Bring it on!

Are you sure you knew everything that Tony Palmer said in his interview? There were things new to me. :)
However I do think that getting these interviews down in print is far better than having them in a transitory form on a website.

As a matter of fact I've just decided to subscribe to Dark Star after much humming and hawing. Although I generally tend to rely on this site for the latest info about things, I thought, on reflection, that it would be nice to sit down and actually read something a bit more in-depth. And to have a printed copy is nice to add to my collection as well.

(I'm also probably slightly worried that MOTS might be the last album and maybe I'm sub-consciously trying to continue my 'active' fandom by subscribing. The thought of there not being any new MO albums to buy in the future is a very sad thought indeed :/ )

So yes, I agree with you. I think there is a market for both types of resource. I guess it depends just how interested you are, or whether you want something tangible to collect.

Well,I'm anxious to read Jon Collins' interview on this latest Dark Star issue...

And don't forget that,Mike Oldfield is on his hibernaculum for a while, dunno how long it will be.

I think if it were ever possible, it would be nice to see a few bits of colour in Dark Star Magazine, as it's always black and white. Might mean charging more, but I don't think any of us would mind?

But I think Chris Dewey does a good job on the magazine, what with  other commitments. But if it were ever possible I guess it would be nice to see the magazine cover updated a bit.

Also, guys, the magazine also welcomes your stories,  - Just thinking about some of the stories you've put on the General Discussion link, about Mike Oldfield's music and why etc etc.

Go on I dare you... bombard Dark Star with loads of stuff, saying you would like it in the magazine. :p
