Not as easy as it seems. Might be easier on a real piano (harder, more responsive, like a German car vs a Japanese car). My teacher would be petrified to see my little finder sticking up.

Tried with a bumble-bee synth sound -> super cheesy.

A valiant attempt! That looks pretty hellish to play.

I'm not sure about the height of your seat compared to the keyboard...? My arms are usually more flat compared to the keyboard whereas your arms seemed to be almost reaching up.

Good job though... you've made me want to go home and dig out some of my old classical music I used to play for my lessons! Unfortunately, I won't be at home for another 7 hours, perhaps the urge will last...

Cheers,
Terry.

Very good question. Not sure about they keyboard height either. The stand has 2 positions (for seating or standing up), and I suspect the "classical" position would be in between. And the seat has only 5 positions, while "classical" seats have infinite positions. I used to have both higher, with the keyboard on an Ikea furniture, I now have the official Clavia stand. I'm going to check what the heights should be and see if the "breathtaking realism" they claim about their sound also apply to their physical dimensions.

First time I'm filming myself, pretty... interesting. Horrible little finger sticking up, and I always seem to want to stupidly keep contact with the keys, i'm wondering if this is due to my Chi Sao ("sticky hands") kung-fu training.

Yeah, even if it's hard to pull off perfectly, practicing this one is not a waste of time, it's like an exercise. Also, it was transcribed by someone with giant hands, I had to voluntarily remove some notes, and that's a good exercise in harmonics too.

And I think it's great to show off (although I think you may need some warm up)... :)

Not sure if i can ever, and how much work it would take, reach this speed.

Better, but not there yet. 95sec vs 65sec for the pros. Plus many missed notes. I probably can't do it sustainably faster without some help to improve my technique. It's a little bit cruel, when you learn it, you go faster each time, and you kind of think you'll get there, and then bang, you hit the wall. I thought it would be great at least to show off but I need to warm up, and wherever you show off you need a good hard full size keyboard. So exciting piece at the beginning but actually kind of disappointing.

Some progress (at some point, takes 99.99% more effort to get .1% better, tough...)

I've been following your progress on your Facebook updates... it really is a hellishly hard piece to learn and sticking with it shows great character. I wouldn't want to try to learn it (scared of failure).

Definite improvement since day 1!

Cheers,
Terry.

Getting faster

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUJuWx_mcQc

Interestingly I don't seem to be interested of playing correctly at a speed I can control and keep going faster and not controlling it. But I might be right, the soul of this piece is the speed.

still working on that, getting lighter, still very choppy, as seen here with my $1,000 metronome:

Beginning is horrible but I like the last note in this take, which I weirdly hit like a pinch.

I think I'm done for a while with it. Back to non percussive music.
