I'd agree that she's one of the best singers that Mike has worked with and she's one of my favourites! It's a pity that they don't really get on - that's why she's not on 'Man In The Rain'. What a shame.

I promised myself I wouldn't write about Maggie again because I have mentioned her in almost all my posts. But nothing will happen if I do it one more time.
I'm not sure if she is Mike's best partner but yeah, she is a good singer with a beautiful voice. When I completed my MO collection, I was thinking about what to buy next. I chose Maggie's album Elena because there was a cover of To France. I must say I like the original more but the rest of the CD is good. I have bought 5 more albums of Maggie's ever since: Midnight Sun, Elena (limited edition), There and back again, Starcrossed and Save it for a Rainy Day (I got it from Denmark).

I only know one song off her solo stuff, not even sure what it's called, it goes something like "every time we touch feels like heaven, and every time we kiss I feel I could die" (or cry, or whatever). I like it, it sounds almost like something Mike could have written for Earth Moving or such. Has she done anything less 'poppy' on her own, though? If so, then I'd sure like to hear that.
Ah, and I just remembered she was guest singer on an album by The Sisters Of Mercy. I always wanted to hear that also. I think the album was Vision Thing.

Maggie sang 'Everytime We Touch' on 'Pebble Mill' around '92 or '93 - I've got it on tape somewhere! Tim Renwick plays the guitar on it!

I'm quite a big fan of her. And I agree, she's the best partner Mike has ever had... and probably the best he'll ever have. But what did he do to her? She seems to HATE him. It's a real pity, as someone said Maggie without Mike and Mike without Maggie is the thing that should never be.
I only have Starcrossed so far, but I hope I can get Midnight Sun or Echoes for Christmas. By the way, 'Everytime we touch' lyrics say:
'Cause everytime we touch I get this feeling
And everytime we kiss I swear I can fly
Can you feel my heart beat fast?
I want this to last
Need you by my side
I love this song! :) Oh, and someone said he wanted a less poppy song by her. I recommend you 'Follow the midnight sun'.

I never heard about what happened to Mike and Maggie. Now I'm curious...

TO HOLGER

Maggie's least poppy (and best IMO) album is definitely Elena. It is a medley of a few genres:
He moved through the fair - a traditional song, sung totally a cappella, an admirable performance. It took me a very long time to realize that it is the same song as Mike's She moves through the fair.
Elena - alternative style, there are no lyrics only such a "doo-dah" chant. Very nice.
Brought up to  believe and As darkness falls are beautiful folky songs. Maggie's voice is accompanied only by the piano.
Syonia - I think this is what people call funky-jazz mixed with yodel!
There is also a short song sung by Maggie's son.
The other songs are poppy (not as poppy as Everytime we touch) but wonderful.
Her other less poppy songs include Gaia and What about tomorrow's children from Echoes, Follow the midnight sun, Every single heartbeat(written by Michael Cretu, btw) and Wind on the Water from Midnight sun, Half-light and I think it's gonna rain(another beautiful a-cappella track) from Starcrossed and One little word(in fact it is a pop song but with a great Celtic feeling) from her Best of album.

TO INCANTATIONS2085

Echoes are sold out completely but Midnight Sun is still available, I believe. I have bought it just recently from a local CD shop.

TO SIR MUSTAPHA

Maggie thought she desrved more attention. Moonlight Shadow or To France sung by Mike himself would never become so popular and so... She wanted just "Mike Oldfield feat. Maggie Reilly". That was all. Or maybe something more... I don't know.

Totally agree she was and still could be the best. A haunting voice that complimented Mike to a tea. Dream of all dreams to get them back together and possibly tour together too, no that would prove there really was a God!

Don't forget how great the singers Sally Oldfield and Nikki B Bentley and Pepsi are? Anyone like Anita Hegerland's voice?

Don't forget how great the singers .....and Pepsi are?

IMHO she has an average voice only.
Much show, less quality.

But that's my opinion only, of course.....

Later,
