Does anyone know if this album - which has been issued under various titles - or any track/s have ever been performed live? If so, did Mike ever perform at the shows?

I don't know David, but I am pleased to see a fan who cares about this profound work [although not by Mike].

I would like it if Mike could perform more of his back catalogue live (or for that matter, DO MORE FRIGGIN' LIVE CONCERTS!;)  Especially the under-rated "Platinum"...

Mike probably doesn't do this one live since it's not by him and there's all that copyright/record company mumbo jumbo like with the "Virgin" pieces at the "Tubular Bells III" premiere.

Mike did put his own stamp on this album though - the guitar solos scattered throughout are all unmistakably Mike.

The Pekka Pohjola album is very good, the solina string synth is used which makes it one of my favs!

What about False Start?  I don't think Mike will re-record that...
Can you imagine Mike on the pop chartrs shows blowing a whistle behind the microphone?  That would be funny...  :)

Well, with some collaborations he appeared on stage and played it live.

He was in several concerts together with David Bedford (in one Vangelis was there too!! ). He played "Downwind" live with Gong (Pierre Moerlen). And he played live with a band called Steeleye Pan, called "Polka". And of course the Marillion anti-heroin gig.

I don't know if there are more. I saw some rare pictures of Mike at oldfieldmike.de called "save the whale" (good! ) gig. So I guess he played some things there too. Anybody know what?

IMHO this album is fantastic and the solos belong to the very best of his guitar solos with "grand MO screaming guitar".

I also understood he did more than the solos, but all the guitar play, am I wrong ?

And isn't Sally also credited as singer ? I don't have the booklet here.

Could it have something to do with the fact that she is Maddy Prior?  :D

Jerome, are you talking about steeleye span? i don't know their album, I only listen to gaudete... But in all sally's discography, they aren't mentioned as collaborations

Not at all ! I don't know what is "steeleye span" nor "gaudete" ! I was talking about Pekka's, and I just found confirmation in your discography link that she was singing there :

Pekka Pohjola:
1977            Keesojen Lehto

Sally Oldfield: Vocals on "Kädet Suoristavat Veden" ("Hands Straighten The Water") and "Varjojen Varaslähtö" ("False Start Of The Shadows").

and also :

Mike Oldfield: Acoustic & electric guitars, Fuzz-guitar, Mandolin, whistle Produced by Mike Oldfield & Pekka Pohjola.

So we even have a whistle explanation :)
