Have a listen and see if you agree:

Some of the other tracks on the Arrange album are style pastiches, so I wouldn't be surprised if this was intentional.

A lot of stuff sounds like Tubular Bells, this is just one of the many examples. I've listed them various other places in this forum, I'm too lazy to list them again here. :)

MAN, that's so similar it's almost ridiculous. I would be very, very surprised if they were trying to pass that off as something original.

It's not a terribly good imitation either. I'm quite sure that Ween would be able to make a far better imitation/parody/homage.

I think MO's lawyers should sue the living shit out of them. An easy case to win. Do it!(if they have not already)

If Mike were to sue all cases of Tubular Bells plagiarism, it would take decades, wouldn't it? Not saying that people should rip it off and Mike would be wrong to complain, but the music has reached such a status that it's more a cultural icon than a "private property". The music took on a life of its own.

Besides, Stereolab have been stealing ideas since they could call themselves a band, and they still rule. Ween have done parodies of more artists than you can count with all your fingers and toes, and they do it well. Those guys could have tried to do something interesting and exciting with the Tubular Bells motif, but they just made a pretty lame facsimile (just like Mike himself did on Tubular Bells II--OOPS, wrong topic! wrong topic! don't mind me).

The interesting dimension to this is the original game music is 8-bit, crunchy, and doesn't sound so much like MO because of the instrumentation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snuwyKZ34HE

The Arrange album, as I mentioned, contains style pastiches — this one sounds very much like Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0CJUweeuEc
