Its Valentines Day soon and as well as the usual chocolates, hearts, flowers and cards it would be nice to think of music that gets you and your partner in the mood for loooovve. Tubular Bells does it for some. I love Voyager. Deb

Moonchildhippy has a bit of a thing for Ommadawn which I can relate to I guess.Although these days I`m probably more of a Tres Lunas kind of guy...I don`t know about getting in the mood as such. But in as much as matters of the heart are concerned,I suppose I immediately think of some of Mike`s shorter and simpler pieces. So things like Summit Day,Sunset,Moonlight Stroll,Celtic Rain.My wife really likes Celtic Rain actualy now that I think about it.Obviously there are numerous examples from Mike`s longer tracks as well, but it`s difficult in some ways to take them out of the context of the piece.

Certain bits of it are just perfect

Can`t say I`d be too keen on being "counted down" by a fella. But yeah I can imagine there are some very appropriate moments during that album.

You're talking about "Crystal Clear" - that seems two tracks premature to me. After that there's "The Sunken Forest" - (that's where SunkenForest got his name from), and then "Ascension" with it's *passionate* guitar and big finish.  :p

I have to say Mike's music, as far as my memory tells me, is extremely anti-romantic and very, very cerebral to me. Or maybe I don't listen to music with that mindset? Still, I think nothing puts me in the "cuddle and kisses" mood more than Reckoner, by Radiohead.

I do agree with that. But you don't need any lyrics at all to be romantic, there are some very melodic tunes by Mike that are romantic :D

It's been a mighty long time since I've been associated with any ladyfolk, and I've never had one ever into MO (which might be part of the reason why I'm not with them anymore).

If I could take my pick, I bet Guitars might be a pretty good choice.  It seems to potentially be palatable for the masses...

Does that mean A New Beginning is just for the young folks?

Yes, like in the patter of tiny feet - coming down to earth with a bump! It's the most unromantic track of the whole I would say :/.

For non MO music, I would highly recommend Ootake Kaoruko's Bartender OST for classy instrumental lounge, perfect for some cocktails and sweet nothings.

Just had a listen to "Flowers of the Forest" pretty romantic, and the bagpipes build to a beautiful crescendo. The walls of the bedroom might not survive Valentine's Day so Love is all around by the Troggs is on standby. And Celtic Rain. However your day pans out have fun. You can buy the chocs, a great DVD, or album, put the microwave popcorn in and have fun solo. The schmulz surrounding the day is nauseating to those who are single or newly single. Have a good one no matter what. Deb

What about "Nothing But", Sir M? :D

Seriously, while Mike's music may not be "romantic", I disagree violently that it's "cerebral". Far from it - you won't find the trace of sonata form in Amarok, for example. No, Mike's music for me is intensely emotional, full of a yearning for the infinite that the music sadly tells us will never be ours.
