Was just browsing through the member lists and came up with some numbers. We average a new member every day, we got 29 in July, 35 in June and 55 in May. 500 people have joined since Mar 2004, 500 from Dec 02 to Mar 04, 500 from Jan 01 to Dec 02 and 281 from Nov 99 to Jan 01.

We have one member who has posted over 2000 times
four members who have posted over 1000 times
ten members who have posted from 500 to 1000 times
58 who have posted from 100 to 500 times
49 who have posted from 50 to 100 times
92 who have posted from 20 to 50 times
and 1,567 members who have posted less than 20 times or not at all.

Fascinating, I thought so!

Isn't it annoying how forums always have an insane amount of people who don't post at all? I wonder if people just don't care about posting, or sign in and forget they did so. What a waste of database! :)

And I realised I belong to a group of five people in this forum. Er... I'm not that important, am I?

I have seen much worst places and people says many bad things.. For zero reason...
But like i say.. this is a very good place. Tubular place  ;)
I join this place around 2004 as Man In Crises, then become Tubular Man (lost my password)
And here i will join in the future too!

thanks guys for making this a good place where we can disgusse mike and his music and other..

What I wonder is, are any of those members actually Mike Oldfield, and if so, how many times has he posted?

I'm sure Korgscrew or Olivier would know if Mike himself has ever posted on this site and under what name, I've seen it mentioned before somewhere, apparantly not for a while but with his new album coming out I'm sure he reads the posts.

Yes, he is amongst those members, and has posted here. Amusingly, considering the amount of time spent by fans trying to identify who might be Mike in disguise, nobody apart from me actually noticed he'd posted...

He usually reads the news topics, when he's trying to gauge opinion.

Well I hope he took note of how we all hated copy protection on his last album.

I have been away from the site for almost two years, but now awaiting the new album with baited breath.

Hopefully this time, without having to buy a Canadian 'No copy protection CD' :D

Of course I have noticed people posting under the name 'Mike Oldfield' but I didn't say anything as I don't know whether that is actually Mike or someone pretending to be Mike. I don't know how you can tell the difference. :)

@ Korgscrew, are you implying that you could tell if Mike was posting without even being privvy to the knowledge that it actually is him? I'm sure he goes to great lengths to hide his true persona.

How often has he posted though? I bet its not much and I bet he hasn't in a while. Round about the time he left a much deserved bit of praise for the site in the comments section his relationship did seem quite close for a while. That was of course quite soon after doing a tour and whilst he was actively looking for feedback from fans regarding the develpement of MVR.

I'm actually quite active over on the Chemical Brothers (my other musical passion) forum at their offical site and they have been known to post quite often there and even join in the odd debate which is always quite funny.
I don't think it takes much for an artist to have a good relationship with their fans

To my knowledge, he's posted precisely one time. He said hello. We have multiple ways of telling if it's him - if it's appropriate to let you know that someone is, then we will. I don't honestly think he has any interest at all in joining in discussion here, so I think ideas that he might be here concealing his identity are rather wishful thinking - why would he? I really can't see him posting to do anything more than give an official angle on things - if he wants to go incognito and have a 'normal' chat about something, he'll go to a motorbike forum or somewhere similar. He didn't even join in on his own forum very much, and when he did, he quickly got annoyed by the fans.

Many of whom were not really acting fanlike at all. It got rather nasty over there.

UPDATE

There have been exactly 2158 days since this forum started and with 1907 members, my guess of one new member a day wasn't too far off. This is increasing all the time, esp at the moment with interest in the new album. We got 55 new members in Aug and 61 new members in Sept.

Timshen - you are currently the 19th top poster.

Hiawatha - in case you didn't see the 'Mike on the site' thread in 'About these forums', Korgscrew has provided a link to Mikes one and only post on April 08, 2001 in the 'News' section in a thread called 'music vr demo'. He said hi, not even a capital letter or an exclaimation point. He is registered simply as 'Mike', the member who calls himself Mike Oldfield is not him.

I'm new, so I don't know how long I will hang on. The intentions are good, I can say that for now  ;) .

But I found it annoying that there is no way of knowing to which topic you have replied.
I know about the 'Do you wish to track this topic' but that goes through mail. Not only is this not immediatly, but the email goes to my home address, which I don't read when I am at my work.

There should be a way to single out all topics one has replied too (or maybe there is, but I haven't found it).

I sure hope that Mike realises what joy he brings to us !

One thing you could do MikeAholic is to use the search button up the top of the page. Just search for your name (searching member names, not titles of course) under 'all open forums' should give you a nice list of your posts, presumably the newest first. That's about all I can think of that could help you.

Thats good to know raven, I didn't realise you could do that either. In my boyfriends fishing site you can track all your own posts and it would be handy esp when the topic has gone off the 'new posts', that's when I get lost.
