Around 1985 I read a small article in the paper (I still have the cutting which has been scanned and put on the articles section of this site) where Mike's cleaner answerecd a telephone call and took a message from a Mr Jackson. She thought nothing of it and when Mike rang the nimber he realised who it was.He aparently loved the music from The Killing Fields and wanted to make arrangements to work with Mike.Does anyone know why this didn't happen?

Mike said that he was a bit rude to Michael Jackson on the phone. That's all I know =)

Perhaps Mike felt their styles/approaches would be too different for them to work well together.
He also doesn't like collaborations much, preferring to be the one in control.

I remember reading this in the Dark Star back issues book, and they reckoned that, although they didn't collaborate musically, Mike appeared in the Thriller video as a zombie. Of course, the fact that the video was shot in 82/83 and Jackson couldn't have heard The Killing Fields since 84 at the earliest, seems to have escaped their notice! When I emailled one of the editors to ask about it, he had no idea what I was talking about! And as editor of the thing, you think he might have read some of the back-issues  :p

i don't know about anyone else, but the thought of MJ making silly little squeals and using his nasel passages as a drum machine would not in anyway enhance the music of MO. try to imagine it MJ doesn't get his own way in the studio, the following morning MO is pictured in the press, being dangled out of a fifth floor window by some crazy long hair'd man!!!      ;)

The zombie rumour comes from a book published by Dark Star, the official fan club. The magazine used to be unofficial and titled 'Shoes And String' (I think). Anyway, because all the old issues were hard to get hold of, they reprinted them with the first few unofficial issues of Dark Star and put them together in a book. And in one issue it says about Mike being a zombie in the Thriller video. I think its nonsense, but a very bizarre rumour!

This Olfield and Jackson has always facinated me,just what did Jackson call Mike for,was it to provide some great guitar, after all Jackson does like great guitar players,he has used Eddie Van Halen and Slash,or did he want a true collaboration,Jackson the lyrics Mike the music,as weird as it sounds having these 2 together,i would really like to hear the end result,Mike has good standing with the Jackson clan,as Janet used parts of Tubular Bells 2 on "The Velvet Rope".

IMHO  I think it would have hurt his street cred. MO's not MJ's. We should be thankful he didnt anyways. After he collabrated with Macca he went behind his back and bought the rights to all the L/M Beatles songs. Incidentally Macca hasnt spoke to him since, cause he allowed them to be used by sponsers for commercials, which is something the beatles were always against. Moral of story
"Beware the MJ wanting to work with ya as he is more likely to take your music and destroy it." LOL
