There's an article on Michael Rother which mentions the following...

“Multi-instrumentalist Michael Rother’s closest counterpart is perhaps Mike Oldfield, but the German guitar and synth wizard’s overall output has been far more satisfying.” That's how Paul O’Brien, contributor to “The Rough Guide to Rock” (U.K., 1996), successfully pins down Rother’s 20-years-plus-spanning body of solo-work. Well, almost...

Anyone heard any of his stuff? Comment?

I've got two albums of his, "Flammende Herzen" ('77) and "Sterntaler" ('78). They're, uhm, nice, but pretty boring. I mean really nice to listen to but very repetitive, you get the feeling that it's really just one idea dragged over the whole album's length; over the length of two albums, actually, since the two are just about identical, even down to the cover (the Sterntaler cover even says "Flammende Herzen" under Rother's name). Stylistically, it's a bit of Kraftwerk (Rother used to be in Kraftwerk epigones Neu), a bit of Can (Jaki Liebezeit plays drums in his usual metronome style), and probably a bit of Michael Rother   Nice, but nothing earthshaking and not all that similar to the other Michael.

Sorry Holger, but in my opinion Michael Rother doesn't make boring music.

It may not be very spectacular and surely repetative but certainly not boring.
Otherwise I wouldn't have bought all of his 8 solo-albums.

Album most worth listening to is "Katzenmusik" from 1979.

And have a look at http://www.michaelrother.de
