I have never seen Mike Oldfield live, but maybe someone
here have seen him? A meeting with him in real life? ;)
How does he act on the stage?
Does he seems angry :D, sad or happy?
Does he speak between the songs?

The 3 times I've seen Mike live (Royal Albert Hall, Horseguards Parade and Wembley Arena) he has been a consumate professional. Very Intense (maybe a bit clinical) when running through the 'feature album' stuff, but more open and relaxed when playing the fan's favourites - The Moonlight Shadow at Horseguard's Parade was unbelievably good and Mike looked like he was really enjoying himself - especially as the audience made a charge for the stage when the first notes started playing. This in spite of the rain (he probably enjoyed the fact that Branson was getting wet). Mike isn't exactly the most talkative chap in the world between songs, but that doesn't distract from the enjoyment.

Don't get your hopes up. It may well go the same way as that 'totaly confirmed' recent German concert that never happened. I'll believe in any concert when Mike himself announces it and not before.

As for the MO live experience. For me its always a very hit or miss affair. Sometimes with some tracks it's utterly mindblowing and sometimes with others much, much less so. I've seen him live twice, first in Edinburgh for TB2 and second the following year at The Royal Albert Hall. But like everyone else I've got all the videos and live bootlegs. What comes across more than anything else in my opinion is that Mike is just not a comfortable live performer, I mean he's pretty much said so himself on a few occasions and if he really did enjoy playing live he would do so much, much more often I think.

To be honest I didn't think much of the Edinburgh concert. It was obviously a lovely venue and just about the right size for a MO concert but I remember walking away feeling really dissapointed he didn't do an oncore, kind of unforgivable at a concert like that really. Also that whole thing of Mike doing kareeokee like guitar playing over a sequenced backing track does nothing for me at all as a 'live' experience. Indeed some of that sort of thing, like FATC at the Horseguards concert, just seems so naff even though Mike gives a great guitar solo.

He also needs to play smaller more intimate venues. Mike isn't Pink Floyd, there isn't much a show to watch beyond the stage performances

The issue with Mike "feeling comfortable" playing live goes all the way back to his youth. Music is a personal escape for Mike. With many other musicians it's about sharing or about being the center of attention.

Mike plays live because of a duty to fans, or a duty to his recording contract/managment or a duty to his bank manager.

When I saw Mike live in the 80's, it was an amazing show, but mainly because he had a "real" band, people who helped create the music and added their own depth to mikes amazing musicianship.

I didn't see the TB's in recent years, just saw the dvd's of the featured albums, and they look kind of too structered to me
