From a quick browsing at the airport yesterday, I found that Mike at least received an honorable mention in the 'Guitar Player' magazine latest edition's 'top 101 Forgotten Greats and Unsung heroes', along with e.g. Jan Akkerman (and others, whom I failed to remember...).
AFAIR, the author especially praised Mike's unique signal chain including compressors, equalizers and a battery-powered amp to achieve his trademark sound - any corrections from regular 'Guitar Player' readers are appreciated...

I'd love to see the complete list...

"But it's always the outsider, the black sheep, that becomes the blockbuster." - Mike Oldfield, 2014

"I remember feeling that I'd been judged unfairly and that I was going to prove them wrong." - Peter Davison, 2011

It doesn't matter really what any Poll says.  Anyone who knows a bit about guitarplaying or who has some passion for it, will know Mike is a natural talent.  He's not Eric Clapton, no, but then again, thank heavens for that!

.. which, as far as I could guess from the quick glance, is almost exactly what that article (not a poll!) is about - to make make people aware that there are other guitar players than Hendrix, Clapton, Blackmore et al., who have contributed their share to music as it is now.

I'm sooo sick of the overated ones such as Hendrix and clapton.

Gladto see that theres someone out there who cares enough to note the unsung heroes.
