Just found this link which suggests Mike is indeed selling his mansion (as mentioned in another thread) and heading for pastures new (well, Spain anyway, where he knows he has some respect shown to him)....

Edit: The original source article is in the Mail on Sunday here. Sounds like it is a genuine report to me.

I don't blame him.  My wife and I emigrated to Australia a year ago and we're a lot happier here than we were in England.  Nothing to do with smoking though - it's just not a very nice place to live anymore.  Too many pointless laws being introduced and not enough police to actually enforce the ones that need enforcing. (e.g. people using mobile phones while driving)

I can totally see Mike's point - I left England in 1988 and everytime I've gone back for a visit the health and safety rules have been getting more and more ridiculous! Singapore, where I live, has been criticised of being too strict, but now I feel there's much more freedom here than in the UK!

Lets just hope that he will still visit this country to do concerts and not boycott it totally like he did in 1984.

Mike, it's an honour to have you in our country again. We hope you get tons and tons of inspiration from here.

Greetings from Spain

Could this be the reason why he's postponed the album release?

Sounds like a fair assumption to me

I can imagine with only 54 Acres of land surrounding his sprawling estate, Mike would find it hard to have a crafty roll-up without it offending some one.

I bet he was going to move anyway, but then he took the oportunity to make a point about the smoking ban! It can't be that painful to walk outside when you're at a restaurant or at the pub.

This reminds me that I haven't smoked for a whole year now!  :O

i do not blame mike for quitting britain!.  i am scottish and i am ashamed to be british.  i am leaving scotland for the usa in december.  the health and safety rules in this country are stupid.  britain is politically correct to the extreme.

I dont like the over the top health and safety.. but I dont think the USA would offer any freedom. You can be sued for anything over there, and so a lot of the time its wise to follow thier health and safety rules.

I think It's fair enough hes going... I dont Live in England and by no means am I british, so I dont know exactly first hand what he feels he is dealing with. Though I think its somewhat a slightly petty reason to give, to shift from a £3.5Million house...

I feel quite dissapointed really, because I thought he was a bit wiser, at least to give a better reason for the move (warmer climate for older age/Bigger fanbase in spain/able to promote himself more.)

Spain is lovely though.

I think it's best we keep this discussion in one place. We'll sort out merging these later.
